Fabulous session earlier on The Sport of Bidding with Ailsa Tuck at #TBO2024. Jo Brassington CP APMP, Sajia Ahmed and I learnt loads about the parallels between sport and bidding including developing a winning mindset, handling setbacks, and creating conditions for success. We also found out about the importance of creating and maintaining psychological safety. My biggest takeaway and #TopTips were learning about the New Zealand’s All Blacks’ 15 Lessons in Leadership including: > SWEEP THE SHED - emotionally detaching from the game > GO FOR THE GAP - continuous improvement and recognising opportunities for change and adaptation > NOBODY IS BIGGER THAN THE TEAM - everyone works together towards the same goal and no one is left behind > TRAIN TO WIN - practicing with intensity to develop the mindset to win > KEEP A BLUE HEAD - maintaining composure under pressure #TopTipTuesday #ProudToBeAPMP #BIDx #TBO2024

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the APMP Women’s Virtual Summit 2024 – a professional development event to elevate and celebrate women in the bids and proposals industry. The day was filled with insights and inspiration from remarkable women who spoke on topics including EDI, skills and career development. A personal standout session for me was “Leadership is the heartbeat of it all” by Heather Finch which focused on harnessing your unique leadership style to influence outcomes, build trust, and foster innovation. Heather shared her inspiring career journey, and I walked away with these key takeaways on developing leadership skills: 1. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸: Wear multiple hats to gain diverse experience 2. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵: Say yes to challenges beyond your comfort zone 3. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲: Apply for roles even if you meet <80% of the qualifications 4. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸: Seek cultural and growth fit over hierarchy in job changes 5. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿: Use learning resources, ask for feedback, and actively pursue growth opportunities 6. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: Find mentors who match your style and goals – nurture those connections 7. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴: Continue to learn and open doors for others.
