We're at the Geo-Environmental Careers Fair today at the University of Plymouth! Yesterday PEMC attended the STRIDE Dorset Innovation for Business conference at BattleLab! We took our JEOL EUROPE Neoscope™ Benchtop SEM and showcased PEMC's electron microscopy and micro-CT capabilities 🔬 We were grateful to be invited and connect with businesses from across Dorset. Last week, members of the PEMC team had the exciting opportunity to visit the David Cockayne Centre for Electron Microscopy at the University of Oxford 🔬 Whilst there, we used the Thermo Fisher Scientific Helios G4 CXe DualBeam Plasma Focused Ion Beam (Xenon PFIB) to slice through a couple of micrometeorites ☄, gathering information about their 3D structure and chemistry. We also prepared a TEM lamella from a rock thin section using the Zeiss Crossbeam 540 FIB/SEM, and analysed it using the JEOL ARM 200F Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope ⚛️ Thank you Gareth Hughes, Phani Karamched, Gerardo T Martinez, and Neil Young - we're looking forward to visiting again in the future! Last week, we took the JEOL EUROPE NeoScope™ Benchtop SEM to the Science and Engineering Showcase, organised by the University of Plymouth 🔬 Over 300 young people (aged 11-18) were introduced to electron microscopy, alongside other exhibitors showcasing marine sciences, biology, electronics and robotics. The sample in the image is a tick, with a red blood cell attached to one of it's appendages! JEOL Ltd.'s Nanamaru-kun even managed to get in a little relaxation on the giant beach chair before the students arrived 🏖️ #ElectronMicroscopy #TransmissionElectronMicroscope #ScanningElectronMicroscope #Biology #Geology #Materials

📣 PEMC now offers thin section preparation! Our labs are fully equipped with instruments for cutting, lapping, and polishing. We offer thin sections in a range of sizes that can be cover-slipped or polished, and can also prepare sections for laser ablation and fluid inclusion analysis.
