Hilsea Lido update! The site manager's cheeky cockerpoo Rocky has been on site in his little high vis jacket, keeping spirits high as work continues. Most of the work has been on the plant room - see how it was before vs now. Soon the steel joists will be put into place, before the timbers and the roof goes on. You can see the plant room concrete pour in action too! Beard also held an Open Doors event to inspire young people to think about a career in construction, attended by students from Springfield School and The Green Room in Bordon. This week, we're highlighting careers in social care as part of #SocialWorkWeek2025 across children's social care, adult social care and fostering. Meet Natasha, Portsmouth City Council’s first social work apprentice in adult social care - Natasha graduated with a 1st class honours. Her career began in private homecare, then she moved to rehabilitation and independent support. Natasha jumped at the chance to do an apprenticeship, and found she gained valuable knowledge and practical experience. Now, she supports adults with physical disabilities and mental health challenges, driven by her passion to help them live their best lives. “I love being a social worker, meeting the residents of Portsmouth, supporting and empowering them to live the life they want to live. It’s a very rewarding job – seeing the impact of my interventions, making a positive difference and finding creative ways of helping people achieve their goals.” Learn more about careers in adult social care: https://lnkd.in/eDCaVgnC #SocialWorkWeek2025

We're continuing to highlight careers in social care this #SocialWorkWeek2025. Today, on World Social Work Day, we'd like you to meet Claire, a social services assistant in supported lodgings. "We really enjoy supporting our carers and seeing them develop positive relationships with those they are caring for." Claire supports our supported lodgings carers, who help young people with preparing for independence and adult life. In her role, she forms positive relationships with carers, if they need guidance or advice. "We regularly meet with our carers for supervision and have reviews for those they are caring for. This approach ensures they achieve their goals of the arrangement and the young people." Hilsea Lido update! The pool has successfully passed its testing phase - a major milestone for the 67m pool - which has been captured in this video. Extensive work has been done to stabilise the pool, including bringing back the shallower lagoons, and now we are able to start the next phase of work. Following the recent testing, the site will be reopening to the public in early autumn. We're in discussions with prospective operators and will be able to update you on this in the next couple of months. Special thanks to contractors Beard and consultant company Mace for their invaluable input into this complex project. This week, we're highlighting careers in social care as part of #SocialWorkWeek2025 across children's social care, adult social care and fostering. Meet Liam, an advanced social worker in children's social care. He started his social work career at the University of Portsmouth studying a master's degree. During his studies, he began a practice placement with the family support and safeguarding team at Portsmouth City Council. This experience ignited his passion for supporting children and families. "After qualifying in 2019, I returned to the family support and safeguarding team. My first year was supported by the Stronger Futures Academy, which provided me with invaluable opportunities for reflection, learning, and training." In 2023, Liam progressed to become an experienced social worker. This role allowed him to take on more complexity and support colleagues within the team. Liam has recently become an advanced social worker, which enables him to mentor and enhance the practice of other team members.
