What a wonderful day we all had at the 2024 Surrey Festival of Skills! 🎉✨ This one-day extravaganza (held at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford), brought together more than 2,000 young people from across Surrey. This was a chance to meet, great and connect with dozens of employers, universities, FE colleges and training providers. There was lots to explore. From supercars to snakes, cooking masterclasses to computer game demonstrations. The aim was to showcase the fantastic opportunities on offer to young people in Surrey, now and in the future. Highlights included hairdressing masterclasses, samosa making, VR headsets and a McLaren Automotive Ltd supercar. There were also lots of animals – with snakes, stick insects and lizards joined by a horse-riding simulator and robotic dog. Young people who attended the free event described it as “impactful”, “rewarding” and “fantastic”. 🌟🙌 Tim Oliver OBE, Leader of Surrey County Council, opened the event. He said: “Now in its second year, the Surrey Festival of Skills is a fantastic platform for organisations across the county to showcase the array of opportunities available to our young people." The Surrey Festival of Skills is open to young people in education aged 14 to 18. This includes students educated in school, college, at home or by any other educational route. It is organised and funded by the Council. Sponsorship was provided by consumer health company Haleon and highways services provider Ringway. #NoOneLeftBehind #SurreyJobs #SurreyFestivalOfSkills #YouthEmployment #Opportunities #FutureSkills #Guildford #SurreyEvents #Education #CareerFair #CommunityEvent #SkillsForLife #YoungTalent

We offer an Employee Volunteering Scheme, an rewarding perk which lets our staff take an agreed amount of paid time off to go out and volunteer for charities and organisations across Surrey! ✨ This month, our wonderful recruitment team spent a volunteering day at Hersham Hounds Greyhound Rescue! 🐶 Alex, a senior recruitment administrator within the team reflects on the day, “Thanks to Surrey County Council's Volunteering scheme, we were able to go out as a team and enjoy a great day of Volunteering with Hersham Hounds Greyhound Rescue! We got to walk a number of dogs who were once used for racing but are now looking for their forever retirement homes. Both us and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed getting out in the sun for some exercise and we greatly enjoyed the day as a team outside of the office environment”. Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare is an independent charity devoted to caring for retired racing greyhounds and finding them homes, find out more here: https://lnkd.in/ejH5AnYv Thank you and well done to the recruitment team for volunteering for an amazing charity! 👏 #NoOneLeftBehind #SurreyJobs #SurreyCareers #ThankYou #TeamSurrey #GivingBack #GreyhoundRescue #OutdoorAdventures #MakingADifference #Volunteering #Community #Outdoor #Nature #Impact #TeamWork

🏡 We’re excited to announce that we are working in partnership with home energy improvement specialists Furbnow to support residents in upgrading their homes with energy saving ‘retrofit’ measures through an innovative Home Energy Improvement ‘One-Stop Shop’ pilot scheme. The platform will provide end-to-end services, supporting households to plan, design, and install home energy projects such as insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps. Residents will receive a recommendation of upgrades, along with a detailed estimate of benefits including energy savings, carbon reductions, and impact on property value. The plan will also include advice for moving the project forward, enabling households to know what to do next – and in what order – to upgrade their homes. ✨The first 245 eligible homes can access a subsidised whole Home Energy Plan. The plan provides a comprehensive property assessment and personalised roadmap based on your household priorities and budget. 💬 Marisa Heath, our Cabinet Member for Environment says about the scheme: “I am delighted that we are working with Furbnow on such an innovative and important pilot to support our residents to install energy saving measures. As well as saving money, and making your home more resilient and future proofed, residential energy use accounts for over 30% of Surrey’s emissions so improving the energy performance of as many of our homes as we can makes a huge difference in achieving our goal of being Net Zero Carbon by 2050”.
