We are all devastated about the death of Khalil Taipow, one of our brilliant Programme Leads, who died last weekend after a short illness. Khalil had only been with Power2 for 18 months, but the impact he had on everyone who had the chance to know him will remain with us for many years to come. He was an inspiring, funny and charismatic person and it was impossible not to feel stronger and more capable after a conversation with him. He was a shining example of everything that is good, and his death is a heartbreaking loss of all he could have achieved. Our thoughts are with Khalil’s family, friends, colleagues and the young people he supported at this extremely sad time.

In this blog by Charity People, our CEO Julie Randles talks about the benefits of term-time contracts for the staff at Power2. Hannah Goreing, one of our Senior Programme Leads, said, "My managers and colleagues have always been very flexible and understanding as I juggle work with all the responsibilities of being a solo parent. Having long holidays has been really beneficial for my own mental health and wellbeing." Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCdS-fv7

“Mentoring is calm, I don’t feel so nervous. I speak to more people now.” Charlie, 13. Our Power2 Rediscover programme improves the wellbeing of young people who are struggling with school engagement by offering them essential practical and emotional support. Before the programme, Charlie was often provoked by his peers resulting in physical altercations that led to exclusions from school. He was struggling to express his emotions which left him feeling frustrated. The 1:1 support offered by Power2 Rediscover gave Charlie a space to talk about and understand his feelings. He learnt practical strategies such as taking deep breaths and using the counting method to help him express himself in a more positive way which helped him to re-engage with school and learning. Charlie also began to play an active role in the wider school community. He set up an orienteering club and ran a community coffee morning which the Lord Mayor of Manchester was invited to. Charlie is now managing daily challenges a lot better and is much calmer, happier and has matured. Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eTF_H7jk

Power2 ‘s senior management team spent the day talking all things #strategy, and particularly how we maintain our excellent internal culture as we grow and scale. It was a great day - thanks very much to Crispin Truman OBE and The Rayne Foundation for hosting us!

More than ever, we understand the importance of providing essential support to the most vulnerable young people in our society. Currently, 91% of the children and young people we work with are living in poverty which shows just how vital our work is for them. As part of London Challenge Poverty Week, we want to highlight Zainab’s story. Zainab participated in our Teens and Toddlers programme when she was 17 and now, at 25, she is one of our Programme Assistants. In the video below, Zainab describes her experience coming from a low-income family and feeling isolated at school as a result. "I was from a low-income family and my peers at school couldn’t relate which meant I isolated myself even more. I othered myself before they othered me.” Zainab’s experience on Teens and Toddlers inspired her to work in the youth sector. The programme made her want to give back to other young people facing the same challenges that she once did. “When I’m working with the young people, I see so much of my younger self in them, and I want to be the person for them that my Programme Lead was for me.” Read more about Zainab’s story: https://lnkd.in/eG-5AJfa #LDNChallengePoverty Week 4in10 - London's Child Poverty Network

Did you know that the UK’s children are the least happy in Western Europe? One in four British 15-year-olds has low wellbeing and is unsatisfied with their life, and one in five young people in England has a diagnosable mental health disorder. Some of the best ideas about how to improve mental wellbeing come from young people. That’s why we asked the children and young people on our programmes to share one big idea to make young people in the UK happier. Swipe to see some of their thoughtful and compassionate responses. 👉 We’re committed to amplifying the voices of children and young people, ensuring their views are heard, so that we can continue to support them in the way they tell us they need – because they are the experts! #WorldMentalHealthDay

Team Power2 spent last night at True.'s headquarters with the The Centre for Social Justice, talking about the iniquities of child poverty and its impact on educational outcomes. Some fascinating insights from Paul Cocker, Andy Cook, Emma Bonnin and Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, and we were delighted there was such interest in Power2's work to improve school engagement and reduce the risk of #exclusion
