Power of One - Animal Welfare
Non-profit Organizations
A PLATFORM FOR WOMEN IN ANIMAL WELFARE COMMUNITIES
About us
Power of One is a non-profit organisation which supports small teams led by women predominantly in emerging markets who work in the animal welfare community, including funding transport and infrastructure projects, providing emergency funding, investment in local education and spay and neuter programmes and creating a support network for women. Animal welfare disproportionately impacts women and there are thousands of women all over the world who are fighting to improve the lives of animals, make their communities safer by reducing the spread of disease, reduce the number of animals on the street through rescue, rehabilitation, re-homing and spay and neuter campaigns, raising awareness through education in local schools and improving public perceptions of the cities, towns and countries they live in. This industry relies almost exclusively on public donations and many women risk their livelihoods and, in some cases, their lives, to be a part of it. Yet behind each of these women and their stories, lies a community that can thrive from capital investment – job creation, family support, local business support, access to education, positive public perception, mental health support and at the forefront of these industries is women. Kindness shouldn’t equate to powerlessness. Our mission is to bring that power back to these women. To recognise the importance of their work and their contribution to society and to help them build sustainable businesses in a way that benefits everyone. Across all industries there is a focus on environmental, social and governance issues – creating equality for women and platforms for women to thrive and working to improve environmental standards. The animal welfare community and everything it stands for embodies everything we should be concerned with furthering as a society and it’s right in front of our eyes. All of the foundations are already laid, all we need to do is open our eyes – choose to see and choose to change.

At HAART (Helping All Animals in Rural Towns), every day is a celebration when they return dogs to their loving families, especially when the dogs come back spayed or neutered. The joy is palpable, with happy owners and wagging tails, as these pups leave a bit chunkier—affectionately called “fresher” in the villages! 🌟🐕 Based on the edge of Kruger National Park in South Africa, HAART provides free essential veterinary care for over 900 rural African village dogs. Sick, injured, or abused dogs receive care at their K9 Centre and are returned home after their spaying and neutering procedures. Spaying and neutering are vital for controlling the dog population and reducing health risks. Each procedure not only helps individual animals but also improves the overall welfare of dogs in rural communities. 🌍🐶 Spaying and neutering are vital for several reasons: ➡️ Population Control: These procedures help prevent overpopulation, reducing the number of unwanted puppies that can lead to more dogs suffering without homes. ➡️ Health Benefits: Spayed and neutered dogs are less prone to certain health issues, including cancers of the reproductive system and infections. ➡️ Behavioural Improvements: Altered dogs often exhibit fewer behavioral problems, such as aggression and marking territory, leading to better relationships with their families and communities. ➡️ Community Health: Reducing the stray dog population contributes to healthier communities, lowering the risks of disease transmission and creating safer environments for both people and pets. The smiles and excitement during reunions serve as a reminder of the difference HAART is making. There are still many more dogs to spay and neuter, and every effort counts toward creating healthier, happier lives for these animals. Together, HAART is ensuring that every dog has the chance to thrive! 💚🐾 #powerofone #HAART #Love4AllAnimals #AnimalWelfare #Education #spayandneuter #Africa

🐾 Power of One is proud to announce a donation of £900 to WarPaws 🐾 This is a big step toward our goal of constructing 23 much-needed shelters with runs and 5 crucial airlocks for WarPaws in Iraq. WarPaws is home to over 700 dogs, offering a lifeline to those in desperate need. The relentless heat in Iraq is unforgiving, with natural shade being a rare luxury. The only sanctuary from the burning sun is the shelter WarPaws has created, which is why this fundraising campaign is so crucial. These shelters aren’t just buildings—they are life-saving spaces that protect vulnerable dogs from the harshest conditions. But WarPaws needs your help now more than ever. Together, we can make sure these incredible rescue efforts continue and thrive. 👉 Find out more and donate: https://shor.by/9ouq Your support fuels these life-saving shelters, ensuring WarPaws can keep providing a safe haven for dogs who have nowhere else to turn. #PowerOfOne #WarPaws #ShelterDogs #EndAnimalSuffering #AdoptDontShop #AnimalRights #RescueDogs

WarPaws Rescue operates in one of the toughest environments, caring for over 700 dogs at their shelter in Iraq. These animals have endured unspeakable hardship, and WarPaws is their only hope for safety and recovery. At Power of One, we are constantly reminded of the depths of cruelty that innocent animals endure. We were deeply saddened and outraged by the story of Togo, a once-loved German Shepherd who was found near death, scavenging on a plastic bottle for food after being abandoned and horribly abused. Togo was found by Ashti, who had been searching for him after witnessing him attacked by other dogs. What she thought was a torn ear turned out to be much worse. When Oriana began treating him, she discovered an air gun pellet lodged in his neck—one of 10 bullets that had been cruelly shot into his body. This beautiful dog, tied up and shot multiple times, had been left to suffer. After days of searching and a long, painful surgery, we removed four of the pellets. Togo is still weak and emaciated, with ulcerated ears and embedded sharp burrs in his skin. He has months of recovery ahead, but with our care—and your support—he can heal and live the life he deserves. Togo’s story is just one example of the countless animals who endure unimaginable cruelty. Without your support, dogs like Togo wouldn’t have a second chance. We are currently raising funds for his continued care and need your help to ensure he receives the medication and attention he desperately needs. 🙏 Please share Togo’s story and donate if you can. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. 🙏 💙 Donate now: https://shor.by/9ouq #powerofone #WarPaws #ShelterDogs #EndAnimalSuffering #AdoptDontShop #AnimalRights #RescueDogs #Iraq

Statistics shape our world 🌍📊 Over 600 million stray dogs and cats roam the streets worldwide, facing challenges such as hunger, disease, and neglect. Understanding this number emphasizes the importance of spay and neuter programs to control overpopulation and reduce suffering. According to the World Animal Protection, over 70% of dogs in shelters are never adopted, often due to misconceptions about rescue animals. Raising awareness can change perceptions and help these deserving pets find their forever homes. In the UK, about 2.7 million pets enter shelters annually, with nearly 1 million of them being euthanized due to overcrowding. This underscores the importance of fostering a culture of adoption. “Data is not just numbers; it’s a call to action.” 🐾❤️ #powerofone #AnimalWelfare #AdoptDontShop

At Power of One, we are proud to support amazing organisations Tolfa Animal Hospital (TOLFA) in Rajasthan, India. TOLFA doesn’t just rescue dogs—they provide holistic care to a wide range of animals in need, from sick and injured street animals to farm animals in life-threatening situations. Recently, TOLFA’s dedicated team rescued a cow that had fallen into a septic tank, bringing her to safety with the help of a crane and their incredible efforts. This is just one example of the life-saving work they do every single day for animals of all kinds. We are currently raising funds for TOLFA to sponsor nurturing staff members who care for the most vulnerable animals: the sick, injured, and even temporarily paralyzed dogs. With your generous support, we’ve raised £2000 towards our £5000 target. Every penny goes directly to TOLFA. Please consider donating and helping us reach our goal! Together, we can continue to save lives. 🐾❤️ Donate here: https://shor.by/7gC2 #powerofone #TOLFA #TreeOfLifeForAnimals #India #streetanimals #animalwelfare #animalrescue #sustainability #donations

Doris Day wasn’t just a Hollywood icon—she was a fierce advocate for animals, dedicating much of her life to rescuing, protecting, and giving a voice to those who couldn't speak for themselves. 🐾 In 1978, Doris founded the Doris Day Animal Foundation, a non profit that supports rescue groups, funds spay/neuter programs, and promotes senior pet adoption. She was deeply committed to improving the lives of shelter animals, always believing that every animal deserves love, care, and a second chance. Her compassion didn’t stop at advocacy—Doris herself rescued countless animals, welcoming them into her home and urging others to adopt rather than shop. She was a pioneer of the "adopt, don’t shop" movement, long before it became mainstream. 💕 Doris's dedication to animal welfare changed the lives of thousands of animals and continues to inspire future generations. She taught us that compassion is a way of life, and that by helping animals, we make the world a kinder place for all. 🌍 Let’s honour Doris’s legacy by advocating for those who need us most—shelter animals waiting for their forever homes. 🏡🐶 #Powerofone #AnimalWelfare #EnrichmentPrograms #AnimalRescue #AdoptDontShop #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #AnimalRescue #DorisDay #AnimalAdvocate #DorisDayAnimalFoundation

Jai Dog Rescue provides a sanctuary for street dogs in the lush fields of a working farm on the outskirts of Nakhon Nayok. Established in 2017, their mission is to transform the lives of these dogs through crucial sterilization, vaccination, rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming efforts. Every day, Neang, a 70-year-old dedicated caretaker at @Jai Dog Rescue, rises early to prepare food for the dogs. Despite her limited resources and the challenges of the monsoon season, she perseveres with a heart full of love. Neang cooks over an open charcoal fire, but during rainy days, keeping the fire going is a struggle, often leaving the dogs without food. Her meagre pension and reliance on rice mixed with leftovers are not enough to provide the nutrition these dogs need. We need your help to make Neang’s work a bit easier and ensure the dogs receive the nourishment they deserve: ➡️ Regular supply of nutritious dog food ➡️ A large new pot with a lid to prevent cheeky dogs from getting into the food ➡️ Ongoing flea, tick, and worming treatments So far, we’ve raised £2200 toward our £5000 goal, which has already funded a new bike and sidecar. Let’s push towards our target and provide Neang and the dogs with the support they desperately need. Every contribution helps! Please consider continuing to support the campaign and help us reach our target for Neang. 💖 https://shor.by/Yvjv #Powerofone #UnsungHeroes #JaiDogRescue #AnimalRescue #MakingADifference #DonateNow #Neang #AdoptDontShop #Donate #StreetDogs #AnimalWelfare

We’re pleased to share that we’ve donated £1,000 to HAART (Helping Animals and Rural Transformation). This contribution supports essential resources for the growing number of animals they rescue and rehabilitate. Under the leadership of Sam Keegan, HAART provides free essential and emergency veterinary care for over 900 dogs in rural African villages. These dogs receive critical care at the K9 Centre and, once recovered, are either returned to their owners or re-homed after being spayed or neutered. HAART’s impact goes beyond veterinary care. They engage local schools with education in Animal Care & Conservation, fostering a culture of love, respect, and appreciation for animals. Thank you, HAART, for your inspiring efforts in improving the lives of rural African village dogs. #powerofone #HAART #Love4AllAnimals #AnimalWelfare #Education #spayandneuter #Africa
