Bristol City Leap has awarded over £300,000 to 15 community-led projects in the second round of our £1.5M Community Energy Fund 🥳 These projects will help decarbonise local communities, supporting Bristol’s push towards a greener, more sustainable future 💚 From solar panel installations to schools teaching young people about climate change, these initiatives are making a real impact 🙌 Plus, the third round of funding is now open! We had a great session last week as part of the Community Leadership Panel on Climate Change and Just Transition, with presenters from Bristol Temple Quarter Simon Cowley, Barney Cringle and Jane Greenaway. The panel is a pioneering initiative to develop strategic community influence on important climate and nature planning and decision-making. The panel is currently open for submissions for our next panel session on 27th November. I'm on holiday in Freiburg, Germany, and apart from the sunny weather I'm already appreciating the excellent trams (for a population of 270,000, 1/4 of Bristol's), the swimmable lake with 'at your own risk' rather than 'no swimming' signs, and the urban design for conviviality - very different to the one bench by itself to discourage teenagers we find in some parts of the UK. This afternoon I will visit Vauban, the model sustainable neighbourhood, which I first learned about as a sustainable design case study at university in Cambridge!

Today twelve organisations raised a flag outside of City Hall to celebrate becoming early adopters of the city's Just Transition Declaration. Huge congratulations and thanks to the Watershed, Bristol & Bath Regional Capital, Triodos Bank UK, Bristol Energy Network, Bristol Energy Cooperative, ACH, Praxis Research, Wellspring Settlement, Bricks, Bristol Labour group, and Bristol Green Councillor Group. They join Bristol City Council, which formally adopted the declaration in 2023. Their statements of intent set out many important actions towards just transition that they will be working on over the next year. We're excited to see these come to fruition. Conversations with the next round of cohort organisations have already started and we look foward to welcoming them later in the year. Photo credit: Simon Holliday
