Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting The Tech Bros’ Bad Ideas Build Day at Patch in York, in collaboration with the Women in Engineering Society at the University of York, Codecademy and ARIA. Bringing together women in STEM, this interactive event challenged teams to turn deliberately ‘bad’ ideas into working prototypes. From ideation to coding sprints and final presentations, it was amazing to see our spaces come alive with collaboration and big ideas. Not familiar with The Tech Bros? This brilliant organisation, founded by Milette Gillow and Sedinam Simpson, is on a mission to increase the number of all-female, all-technical startups, helping women in STEM take their ideas from 0 to 1 through hackathons, workshops, and their upcoming accelerator programme. Got an idea for a workshop, meetup, or hackathon? Let’s chat 🚀. #TheTechBros #womenInSTEM #yorkevents #worknearhome

Making Allyship Happen - Gender Equity - Keynote Speaker - UN Women Changemaker - Kavli Fellow - The Black Autistic Guy

The world has been built by men For men In my work, I often hear this And there is no doubt at the male normative centricity of design, innovation, and the history surrounding the source of change and evolution. Still to this day in the workplace, men are more likely to have innovation and efficiency as their side of desk, while women are more likely to have people areas such as engagement, wellbeing and inclusion. And as for receiving deserved credit, we know there is a gap there too. When a man says what you said 15 minutes ago and suddenly people listen and validate it, the gap feels all too real. Many innovations were a collective effort. But when credit is given, history can literally feel like “his story”. Given its Women’s History Month, it’s time to reflect. Often, being the default is something you don’t notice. It’s takes intention to notice the things that fit and are comfortable. I can certainly say I spent years unaware of many of the things I challenge today. I could share a lot more thoughts on this. But I’ll leave you with two considerations We shouldn’t forget all the things that were created by women. This list isn’t extensive and there will no doubt be women never credited with what they created or invented. And secondly, we as men should be active in considering this, and ensure credit is given equitably. And where women aren’t considered, we should partner with them to quite literally “design her in”. Systems. Processes. Products. Spaces. Allyship is intention, inclusive action. That requires picking up the tools and to change the structures, bit by bit, day in, day out. Because if men built it We can be a part of fixing it It’s why Male Allies UK exists (we will be naming these women in our next post) Creating a better, healthier world for everyone And who wouldn’t want that?

SLEEP EXPERT, CHANGEMAKER & SPEAKER. Promoting GENDER EQUITY among parents. Improving EMPLOYEES SLEEP to improve MENTAL HEALTH & PRODUCTIVITY. Open to ANGEL INVESTORS with a passion for improving maternal mental health.

This is the most vulnerable post I will probably ever write in my lifetime, and I need to ask for your help. Today, my husband has been sectioned under the mental health act, and it is likely that he will be away for 2-3 months. I am now on my own, with 2 young children, self employed, with no financial stability. I have monthly outgoings across the family and business bills of around £4000 a month, and I need to single handedly find this. I do not want charity or hand outs, I want to use my skills to earn money so I don't lose my house and can keep my girls safe, but I need to do it fast. What can you do to help me? I am an excellent speaker, and a sleep expert, and I have a passion for making a positive difference to people lives and raise awareness around the importance of sleep. My husband has been so unwell and chronically sleep deprived than he is sitting in the areas of paranoia, hallucinations and severe anxiety. I know first hand how sleep deprivation can affect people's mental health. I know first hand how sleep deprivation affects productivity. I know first hand how sleep deprivation affects a persons safety. I deliver sleep webinars on Sleep Awareness and Improvement, Sleep and Burnout, The Impact of Gender on Sleep, Sleep and Emotion Regulation, Parental Rage, Parents and Sleep, and my speciality is Babies and Children to help the Parents sleep well so they can thrive in their work and home life. My normal rate for a virtual webinar is £1200(I am being totally transparent), but right now, I will be delivering these webinars to businesses for whatever they can afford. If you have any budget left before the end of the financial year, please consider using it to allow me to deliver one of my sessions. I get great feedback from my clients. Please ask Kayleigh O'Keeffe Amy Wellings Emmanuelle Rodarie Elizabeth Cowper Chartered FCIPD Elizabeth Da Cruz Georgia Hope check out the review I posted from Antonia at IQ-EQ last week, Jo Robinson-Howarth and so many more, (which I have been delivering under these circumstances) I don't care what the budget is that you have, I just need to make sure I can pay the bills, and I work bloody hard, and I am good at what I do. Please tag any HR professionals, Health and Safety Executives, anyone you know who manages people, runs parent networks, or anyone who could benefit from my work. I have a pre-recorded Parental Rage: Finding Calm in the Chaos workshop that I will sell for less than its rate of £600 a year that all of your employees can access, just name your price, it's yours. I have online courses for families from pregnancy through to children turning 6 years old at baby2sleep.co.uk I have skills, and I make a positive difference to peoples lives, now I need to use these skills to help my family survive. Please can you help me? Ps: today is my daughters 5th birthday, so the timing couldn't have been any better.😭 #PleaseHelp #Sleep #AskingForHelp #VulnerablePost #MentalHealth

Happy International Women's Day! The world shouldn't need a special day to highlight how incredible women are- it should be a given every day. But this day isn't just a celebration, it's commemorative of the struggle for women's rights- and we're still having to fight to get our voices heard. Women are still seen as lesser in so many parts of the world, in so many ways. True equality will come when we don't have to stand up anymore; when there's no need to fight. But, whilst there's gendercide, governments deciding what's right for women's bodies and health, gender pay gap, female mutilation, sexual assaults that go unpunished, lack of equal education and opportunities- we have to keep pushing forward. Until the words 'It's a girl' don't lead to disappointment and rejection (as they do in many places in the world), then we have to keep making our voices heard. Today, as every day, I celebrate my gender, and I stand tall and proud with every other woman around the globe. If you think feminism is misplaced or unnecessary, ask yourself this: do you think women are always treated fairly? Are you ok with the answer being no? If there's a fraction of anger or upset in you, you are a feminist. It's not man hating or burning of the bra- it's the crazy notion that everyone deserves to be treated with respect. That everyone deserves the same chances in life, regardless of their chromosomes. Let's keep protesting, shouting and standing up. Let's keep making this world a better place, for everyone 🌟🦸🏻♀️🔥♥️ #iwd #internationalwomensday #accelerateaction

As #InternationalWomensDay approaches, Group Risk Development (GRiD), the industry body for the group risk sector, is cautioning employers on providing one-size-fits all employee benefits for female staff, as their concerns are quite specific. It's research shows that female employees’ concerns about their physical health increase with age, but mental wellness-related issues peak earlier in life... Katharine Moxham concludes: “As we are all working longer, the differing needs of female staff at the start and end of their career is only going to continue. However, employers who do not provide appropriate employee benefits are jeopardising their productivity..." 👇Find out more below👇 #StartupsMagazine #Startups #Entrepreneur #FemaleEmployees
