Climate change has become a critical issue for manufacturers, with extreme weather events disrupting everything from commodities, to ports, to factories. In a recent interview with Institution of Mechanical Engineers, our Senior Consultant Gemma Thompson MCIPS emphasized the importance of organizations building resilient supply chains to protect themselves from climate-related risk. Gemma acknowledges that whilst potentially expensive, the cost of doing nothing may become greater than putting a strategy in place in an increasingly unpredictable climate. The ongoing Red Sea crisis and global port congestion is causing a “domino effect” of implications for retailers as they enter peak season shipping, according to our Principal Consultant Spencer Shute, CSCP in Chain Store Age. In a recent blog post, Spencer highlights that goods transiting between China and Europe will be feeling the brunt, as diverted shipping routes avoiding the Red Sea cause extended transit times and port congestion, with labor negotiations and strikes in Europe leading to similar delays. Peak season shipping has started in some regions but is still ramping up. Read more of Spencer's insights here: https://bit.ly/3Sc7m4m #Proxima #GlobalSupplyChain

Every so often there is a supply chain incident that you know will be one for the textbooks for the next decade. It feels like last week’s outages were such an event, with disruption global and affecting a broad range of sectors, including retail, aviation, and broadcasting (to name but a few). But what did we learn? Lots, but above all else that cyber insurance premiums are going up this year, as will investment in risk and resilience solutions. Supply chain risk is complex, and potentially costly to design, build and run. Our Risk Report looks at how tech is enabling faster, better, and broader solutions, but also how it may be prompting us to confuse the possible with the practical. Each year, Proxima surveys CEOs around the world to gain insight into the supply chain issues dominating boardroom conversations. Last year's Supply Chain Barometer found that supply chains remain a focal point for the C-suite, with a particular focus on:   🏭Nearshoring - as companies aimed to reduce dependency on distant suppliers, mitigate risks, and enhance supply chain resilience. 🌎Decarbonization - with businesses under pressure to meet net zero targets. 🔍Supply chain transparency - as demand increases for ethically sourced products and regulation tightened.   As these focus areas continue to shape supply chain strategies, we will be assessing the landscape again to see what priorities have emerged, and what has stayed the same. Catch up on last year's Supply Chain Barometer on our website, and keep a look out for this year’s report: https://bit.ly/4d41QJd #supplychaintrends #CEO #supplychains
