Public Map Platform/ Llwyfan Map Cyhoeddus

📍 The Implementation Steering Group met today, including a session with Dr Rachel Hughes to introduce the group to innovative and creative ways of engaging our communities.     Dr Rachel Hughes focused on the Lle Llais project in Ynys Môn, which is part of the approach of the Public Map Platform/ Llwyfan Map Cyhoeddus, a two-year research initiative led by Cambridge University to make places in the UK better for the people who live there. As I approach six months working on a research project with Public Map Platform/ Llwyfan Map Cyhoeddus and University of Cambridge, I’ve been reflecting on how much I’ve grown professionally and personally during this time. Being based on Anglesey, I’ve had the privilege of working on a project that delves into the complexities of the planning system and its impact on local communities. It’s been fascinating to explore how policies and decisions shape the places where we live and work. Seeing these dynamics play out in real-time has given me a new appreciation for the complexity and importance of effective planning. One of the most rewarding aspects has been the opportunity to be out on the streets, gathering data and contributing to the open source community. There’s something truly fulfilling about combining desk-based work with hands-on fieldwork—it keeps every day fresh and engaging. This role has not only expanded my understanding of planning but also strengthened skills I honed during my psychology degree, particularly my love of statistics and problem-solving. Looking ahead, I’m excited to build on this foundation as I prepare to begin my master’s degree in building surveying in the new year.

Good to see Bekah Collis on LinkedIn. She did a nice bit of outdoor events inclusion work with PinkGold Ltd for Public Map Platform/ Llwyfan Map Cyhoeddus this summer in Canva and making audio recordings of accessibility information sheets. Her bilingual (Welsh/English) audio recording and editing was spot on. All I had to do was send her a script and she did the rest.
