We're proud to have been shortlisted in two categories at this year's Corporate Reporting Awards: 🍍Best ESG Report 🍍Best Use of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) We still have some way to go and are always learning, but we're tenacious in working to realise our four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: 🍍Good health and well-being 🍍Affordable and clean energy 🍍Decent work and economic growth 🍍Responsible consumption and production Rather than a dry statement of intent, we weave our goals into our day-to-day business. That's why we use storytelling to champion the work of our people, the planet and pubs. One of our standout moments was the Sleep Out to Help Out fundraising event at The Griffins Head in Nottingham, where our entire Executive Team participated. This event garnered attention in both the trade and local press, highlighting the impact of our people's work, and raised some valuable money for Only A Pavement Away in the process. There’s not long to go until the Autumn Budget, and we’re encouraging everybody to make some noise and support our industry! Please reach out to your local MP and help us in protecting our wonderful pubs that sit at the heart of our communities 🍻 BII UKHospitality #WeLovePubs
With a week to go until the Autumn Budget, Punch Pubs & Co are asking the Government to take action to support hospitality businesses. A successful and thriving beer and pub sector will drive investment and economic growth in every corner of the country, ensuring pubs remain a home from home, as they have done for hundreds of years. However, the scale of the challenges faced by our sector recently have stretched businesses and stifled growth. In the last few weeks, I’ve written to the relevant Government departments and Ministers ahead of the Budget to urge the Labour Party to maintain their commitment to the root and branch reform of the business rates system in England that they promised in their manifesto, whilst in the short-term maintaining the 75% business rates relief for pubs (alongside other fiscal asks). As things stand, business rates relief stops completely in April, leaving Publicans facing a cost cliff edge. This relief is worth £12,000 per year to an average Punch pub and has allowed Publicans to manage cost pressures whilst continuing to play their vital role in our communities. Pub companies like Punch invest in local businesses, create jobs, improving communities, and accelerating growth. This should be embraced and encouraged, not hampered by Government. There is still time to make your voice heard to your local MP by using either the BII's letter template or the UKHospitality online version. https://lnkd.in/eg2b3bqG https://lnkd.in/ehZzsS5Z #longlivethelocal #welovepubs #doingwellbydoinggood

This Recycle Week, the theme is endearingly titled Rescue Me, focusing on saving recyclable items from waste. While we still have a lot of progress to make with this, we thought we'd share little ways we are trying to help as individuals, as a business and by empowering our pubs. 🍍 We're rescuing our coffee grounds from the coffee machines at Head Office. Our people have been repurposing it for compost, as a natural alternative to repel unwanted pests and as a de-icer. 🍍 Our incredible Welcome Inn Food Team ensures we avoid wasting food. So, we can purchase delicious parcels of leftover food for £1 at the end of our working day. 🍍 We also ensure that, where possible, our marketing material sent to pubs is recyclable, including: Correx, PVC external banners, Posters, Flyers, and postcards/invites. Let's spread the love and rescue rather than waste. Photo: Punch's Marketing Executive, Jake Green, helping out at this year's Woodland Clean ♻️

We recently expanded our portfolio by acquiring the fantastic Salmon Leap pub in Southampton. The established pub will be taken on by Publican Shane Light, the son of Hampshire’s longest-serving landlord, Eric Light, who has built up an incredible rapport with the local community during his 30-year reign. Punch Pubs Operations Manager Jay Pearce added: “It’s wonderful to see the evolution of this fantastic pub, and I am thrilled that Eric has passed down his valuable hospitality traits to Shane, whom I know will continue to run an epic pub business. I’m excited to be working alongside Shane, Sanna and the team to continue building a successful future here.” You can read about this acquisition as well as other exciting Punch updates, here 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/evAKdRmQ To discuss an acquisition opportunity with Punch Pubs & Co, email acquisitions@punchpubs.com #ProudAsPunch #WeLovePubs Stephen Allen Andrew Cannons MIWFM, FBII

Another superb transformation at one of our wonderful Nottinghamshire pubs👌🍻 The Heart in Ruddington reopened this September following a £220k investment. It has undergone a complete renovation as well as welcomed a new Publican, Jack Robson to the helm. He said: “We’ve made a lot of changes at The Heart; we’ve tried to make it a pub for all that’s much more family-friendly. We did a proper back-to-brick refurb, it was the only way to get it to the standard we needed to run it successfully. It was tired but now everything is new. “The village and local community have been nothing but supportive, and came out in full force for our reopening – people were queueing out the door! There must have been 300-400 people on-site at any one time and in the garden, we were so busy, and it was way better than we anticipated.” You can read more about this investment, and others, here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQ9FiiYb

This year's #WorldMentalHealth Day theme is workplace mental health and wellbeing to benefit people, organisations, and communities. That's why we are so proud of our 2024 Mind Gold Award, achieved for the second year running, evidencing our commitment to putting mental health at the centre of our working policies and practices. It's also why we are so proud of our partnership with the Licensed Trade Charity that does so much to look after the wellbeing of people in the hospitality industry: https://lnkd.in/dnAtEbc However, whilst we are proud of our workplace initiatives, we understand it's often the simple, little human things that can make such an incredible difference in work, at home and in life. Not organised training or events alone. It's about being brave enough to check how people are authentically feeling. It's the simple things that count. Norwich Football Club conveys this poignantly in their film: https://lnkd.in/eDCiYfvM Let's look after ourselves and each other.

We had an unforgettable day with our #PubHeroes last week, swapping ideas and insights to create a better future for our Pubs, People, and the Planet. The highlight? Being together and visiting Theakston Brewery, where tradition meets innovation. This 1827-founded brewery is a family affair, with five generations of Robert Theakston's descendants keeping his legacy alive. We were awestruck by their commitment to quality, using historic machinery and methods to craft exceptional beers. But the day was about more than just great beer. Ex-rugby union player, and People's Captain founder Greg Bateman inspired us with his personal story about his mental health and commitment to brewing positivity. We also shared ideas on waste reduction, environmental initiatives, energy efficiency and supporting our Publicans' well-being. It's days like these that bring our #doingwellbydoinggood strategy, Punch Promise, to life! #inspiringthosemoments #prideinourstride #pubheroes #doingwellbydoinggood #pubheroes #punchpromise #welovepubs Jon Dale Dip CIPR, MCIPR, Jessica Nicklin MSc, BA(Hons), Greg Bateman, Jess Ford, Mark Cunningham, Biffa, Sophie Farrell, Anna Russell, Liam Woods, Mark Chapman

Our second single-site acquisition of last week was the fantastic Grey Horses Inn in Worksop. This village pub will be run by father and son duo Ken and Jack Jarvis who are experienced, multiple operators eager to further embed the Grey Horses into the community thanks to the success of its former Publicans Chris & Sally! 👏🏻 Operations Manager, David Hill said: “Chris and Sally have run a fantastic pub for many years, so it was important for us to ensure we could continue their legacy. Ken and Jack are excellent operators and great people who I’ve no doubt will work brilliantly alongside the team to keep the Grey Horses thriving in the community.” Read about this acquisition as well as other exciting Punch updates, here 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/evAKdRmQ To discuss an acquisition opportunity with Punch Pubs & Co, email acquisitions@punchpubs.com #ProudAsPunch #WeLovePubs Stephen Allen Andrew Cannons MIWFM, FBII
