Urban Pubs & Bars was founded in 2014 by Nick Pring and Malcolm Heap and has since expanded to an estate of over 40 pubs, bars and restaurants across London. Our ethos focuses on acquiring the best sites in the right locations and recruiting exceptional operators who are as passionate about food and drink as we are. Establishing the right offer and investing in the right areas is key, whilst devoting time and attention to the team that operate those sites is a major part of that investment. Ranked number 28 in the Sunday Times Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 list, nominated for 2 Publican Awards in 2020, winning the award for ‘Best Managed Pub Company - 2-50 sites’ on the night, awarded 'Best Food-led Pub Company 2021' at the R200 awards and recently winning the '2023 Best Managed Pub Company' at the Publican Awards. Our people play a pivotal role in creating an eclectic mix of unique establishments all with a friendly atmosphere, delicious food, awesome service and an experience not to be forgotten. Urban Pubs and Bars recently hosted a Future Leaders Day, where our rising stars had the chance to connect, learn, and be inspired. The event was spearheaded by our Divisional Director, Ben Atkinson —a true Urban success story, who climbed the ranks from bartender to his current role over the past decade. Ben gathered a few of our department heads at The Railway for a day filled with creativity, inspiration, and a lot of fun. It was a celebration of the incredible opportunities in both Urban Pubs and Bars and hospitality, where anyone can start at the grassroots level—as a barback, KP, or runner—and grow to positions such as General Managers, Operations Manager, or even Managing Director, or take a new career path into roles within other functions like People and Sales. Chris Hill also joined for an engaging Q&A session, sharing his extensive experience and inspiring journey in this vibrant, ever-evolving industry we proudly call “hospo.” It was a day that showcased the boundless potential within our sector, leaving our future leaders energised and ready to carve out their own paths to success. A handful of our Urbanistas joined an amazing day of tasting Kentucky whiskey; learning all about what goes into a great bourbon and how to make recommendations, before enjoying a night of pizza and phenomenal drinks at DRAM.
