Autumn Budget 2024: What is the impact on Private Sector Care Providers? The recent UK budget introduced key changes affecting private care providers, especially around PAYE and employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs). Employer NICs have risen from 13.8% to 15%, with a lowered threshold of £5,000. For dividend income, the tax-free allowance has been halved to £500. While the public sector may receive funding to offset NIC increases, private care providers will need to absorb these costs directly, impacting wage structures and hiring decisions. So, how does that impact your care business? You will have to pay 1.2% more of payable NIC (13.8% to 15%). When you hire a Nurse on a £37,000 salary, you will find that payable NIC increases from £27,900 to £32,000. This means that you will pay a further £1,050.20 per year (£3,850.20 to £4,800) in employee NIC. When you hire a Clinical Director on an £80,000 salary, you will find that payable NIC increases from £70,900 to £75,000. This means that you will pay a further £1,468.80 per year (£9,781.20 to £11,250) in employer NIC. Now more than ever, recruitment fees must come down to ensure that your care business is able to take on the workforce you need. That's why Quality Care Recruit are your partner in executive search. We addressed these problems before the budget was announced, and we are continuing to actively work with our care clients to ensure flexibility and guidance. Get in touch to find out more about how we can help you weather the storm. Managing staff in the Care sector is more crucial than ever. With the sector expanding rapidly, ensuring your team is motivated and well-supported can make all the difference. Here are some strategies that have proven effective: ✅ **Invest in Training and Development**: Continuous learning is key. Providing regular training sessions not only enhances skills but also boosts morale. According to Skills for Care, organisations that invest in staff development see a 15% reduction in turnover rates. ✅ **Foster a Supportive Culture**: Creating a supportive environment where staff feel valued and heard is essential. Regular check-ins, open communication channels, and recognising achievements can significantly improve job satisfaction. ✅ **Implement Flexible Working Hours**: Flexibility can be a game-changer. Offering flexible working hours can help staff manage their work-life balance better, leading to increased productivity and reduced burnout.
