Heartbreaking reality from an IDP camp in Mekelle: this mouldy injera symbolizes the severe food shortages and unreliable food aid many are enduring. Some IDPs we visited have had to wait up to 9 months for food assistance, leaving thousands without consistent access to nutritious food. This dire situation forces people to beg for food daily on the streets to survive and feed their children. Sources: United Nations OCHA , World Food Programme, Reuters #FoodAid #IDP #Tigray #Famine

“I received medication but it was too strong and gave me side effects. I went back to the hospital and they told me that my problem was that I don’t have enough nutritious food in my body to handle the medication. I’m pregnant with a child of 6 months. The baby is in danger and the medication to treat the baby’s situation is 5000 birr. My husband died due to illness two months ago. I do not have anyone who can help me.” - Amit We met Amit who lives in an IDP in Mekelle. She wanted to share her story to bring attention to her reality and that of many women in her community. In the aftermath of the Tigray conflict, there has been a significant increase in HIV spread due to disrupted healthcare and social instability. Reports from UNAIDS and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) highlight the critical impact, with shortages in medical supplies and limited access to HIV services worsening the situation (Sources: UNAIDS Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada). The conflict has also exacerbated food shortages and malnutrition, weakening immune systems and increasing susceptibility to HIV/AIDS among displaced populations. Rebuilding healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to essential resources are crucial steps in supporting recovery efforts. #HealthCare #WomensHealth #Tigray #Ethiopia
