Stephen Fry has given our #CatchUpWithCancer campaign petition a huge boost as it nears half a million signatures. ➡️ Join us and sign the petition https://bit.ly/42Nc1Ow The actor, broadcaster and author was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, and talks about his own experience with cancer, the need for action, and the way King Charles III has approached his own health news. Our campaign’s petition urges government to take action as 4 in 10 cancer patients wait too long for vital treatment. Since 2020, 225,000 people have not had vital cancer treatment on time. If these people waited in a queue it would stretch 131 miles, the equivalent of a straight line between London and Cardiff. Stephen said: "Cancer is a verb – it moves and acts quickly – and so must we if we want to save our loved ones. Since 2020, 225,000 people have waited too long for cancer treatment, and these waits can be deadly. "If, like me, you want to help, here’s what you can do. Join me and sign up, to the #CatchUpWithCancer campaign petition. We need half a million signatures, and we’re almost there. Please share this message far and wide. With all our voices, speaking about the needs of cancer patients, we can push the government to act now." A huge thank you to Stephen and his team for their kindness and generosity. Please urge your MP to sign a parliamentary motion calling to save the lives of more cancer patients. Use this link ➡ https://lnkd.in/eYRFtE7W to ask your MP to support our campaign for better access to life-saving cancer treatments and to tackle cancer waiting times. Specifically, this will ask your MPs to sign a parliamentary motion in support of our #CatchUpWithCancer campaign to ensure cancer patients get the treatment they need. With over 300 new MPs, it is crucial that our campaign message is heard. 1 in 2 of us will get cancer, and currently, about a third of cancer patients are facing treatment delays. One of the key areas in cancer treatment is radiotherapy, which is necessary for about half of all cancer cures. Clicking this link ➡ https://lnkd.in/eYRFtE7W takes only a minute and will significantly boost our campaign, helping us remain a strong voice for cancer patients in Parliament. It will also show the Secretary of State for Health just how important this issue is to people around the country. And will help us identify even more supportive MPs. This action only takes a minute and will have a direct and positive impact on our campaign. Thank you. Craig and Mandy Russell - co-founders of #CatchUpWithCancer campaign

It’s South Asian Heritage Month and this year’s theme is “free to be me.” I moved to the UK in the 90s where I was one of the few people of colour around. I was discriminated against for being ‘too Indian’ so I worked hard to lose my accent, suppress my culture and heritage, change the pronunciation of my name so it’s easier for white people to say and remember it. Also in the last 18 months I’ve experienced bullying, racism and gaslighting due to my work tackling health inequalities, standing up against bullies and people who enjoy putting people of colour ‘in their place’ and doing what my culture has taught me - stand up for those that can’t for themselves. Last year my wife and I got married, I got to be free to express my true self ❤️. Swipe for a photo of me as a baby that my uncle and father figure Savir Julka took. My superpowers include my melaninated skin and being bilingual 💪🏽. What can you do for me? •Learn how to pronounce my name how it should be pronounced - there are actually only a handful of people who I am friends and work with that do say it correctly. •Accept that my experience of the world is different to yours. •Stop underestimating people like me! •Help make the world a better place for people like me. •Eat samosas, preferably bring me some too✌🏽. #southasianheritagemonth #Indian #India #leadership #radiotherapy #radiotherapyandoncology #oncology #cancer #nhs #healthcare #fitin Rad Chat The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust The Institute of Cancer Research Macmillan Cancer Support Radiotherapy UK MOVE Against Cancer Charity Trekstock

We are delighted to warmly welcome six new members to our Board of Trustees. Over the coming years their broad range of skills will drive the work of the charity forward as we fight for fair access to vital cancer treatment, advocate for the radiotherapy workforce, and develop our resources for patients and their loved ones. Our thanks also to all that applied. At a time when everyone is so busy, we were overwhelmed with a large number of incredibly strong applications. As a small charity with a big fight on our hands, it’s essential that our work is rooted in the radiotherapy workforce and wider community. That way, we can build the strongest and loudest voice speaking up for radiotherapy and the people that need it. With the workforce and a wider community of supportive MPs, academics and patients, we were proud to launch World-Class Radiotherapy – Right Patient, Right Treatment, Right Time in February, to coincide with World Cancer Day. The Vision document, commissioned by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Radiotherapy, is a living document, created and evidenced by Parliamentarians, the workforce, academics, patients, and our charity. What better chance to share this Vision than by taking it to this year’s ESTRO, OPC and UKIO? A year ago, Therapeutic Radiographer Amber allowed us to share this touching message from her #Miles4Radiotherapy fundraising page. The results of our workforce survey will soon be published. Our aim, as always, is to give a platform to the powerful voice of our #radiotherapy workforce, and to see their sacrifice and commitment acknowledged through better working conditions. Does this quote resonate with you?

“We always assume as practitioners that chemotherapy is the hardest bit and radiotherapy is a breeze – the light is at the end of the tunnel,” says Prof Heidi Probst. “But actually what patients were saying to us was the opposite: that it’s really difficult." Using her own experience, Heidi Probst has led a team in developing a bra to support people during #radiotherapy to the breast and chest. A clinical feasibility study has shown the bra reduces radiation doses to the lung. It can also reduce time spent helping people into the correct position, supports the dignity of the patient, and can be fitted at home before appointments. These wonderful moments when innovation creates the possibility of a leap in outcomes. Thanks for sharing Naman Julka-Anderson. https://lnkd.in/eqFyAkK7
