About us

Since 2001, Real World Group has been enabling organisations to maximise their potential through enhancing engaging leadership, team working and culture. Through our investment in research, we are market-leaders in understanding what practical things individuals and teams can do to achieve transformational change – and a win-win between people and the vision. We support direct clients globally from a wide range of sectors through consulting activities designed to create culture change from the Board to the frontline. This activity utilises as a foundation our uniquely proven models and diagnostic tools – which are both web-based and in the form of a new range of Apps. We also support and up-skill other consulting firms (referred to as “Partners”) to utilise our diagnostics with their own clients in a variety of countries, including Canada, Australia, Singapore and China. Our Partners further benefit in their marketing and client development from the wide range of publications we have authored as world-renowned psychologists, in both academic and practitioner journals and magazines. We closely guard our values of “doing well by doing good”. We ensure we provide a quality service to maximise the value of the organisation’s investment for its benefit, and the benefit of its people. We strongly believe that employees deserve to experience their workplace as somewhere that their wellbeing and engagement are maximised, in line with the organisation’s vision.     Engaging Leadership was developed as a model through the world’s largest study of the nature of leadership, conducted over three years and initially published in 2001 by Professor Beverly Alimo-Metcalfe and Dr John Alban-Metcalfe. This original research involved over 6,500 people at all leadership levels of the private and public sectors. It has been widely extended since, to include a range of countries, as well as teams and organisational cultures. The study was deliberately inclusive by gender, ethnicity and other demographic characteristics to ensure that, unlike typical models, it does not either discriminate against, or unfairly favour, particular types of leader. #EngagingLeadership has been uniquely shown to have a direct cause-and-effect influence on increasing team performance, through longitudinal research using objective measures of success. Engaging Leaders not only focus on the way they interact with their direct reports, colleagues and line manager, but they also behave in ways that positively influences the effectiveness of the wider department and organisation culture, and lead across traditional boundaries.     Fire & Rescue Service Leadership 360 (FRS360) 🔥 🚒 We have been busy working with numerous Chief Fire Officers and OD teams across the UK and have created an evidence-based, FRS-specific 360-degree feedback tool which assesses the behaviours and competencies included in the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Leadership Framework. It is based on an adapted version of our widely proven Engaging Leadership model and augmented with FRS-specific professional and leadership requirements. In this way, it is not only addressing what the NFCC require but also what is needed of organisation leaders across the world today. Knowledge and experience of NFCC leadership framework. ✔️The behaviours the FRS360 assesses are proven in both research and practical case studies to help enhance diversity and inclusion. They form an essential foundation for the culture demanded by the Wilsher Report. ✔️They also reflect the Leading and Developing People Standards described by the Fire Standards Board. Tailored versions for different levels of leader 👩🏽🚒 We have created a bespoke middle manager FRS 360 version and a 👨🚒 Junior Officer FRS 360 version based on the specific requirements of these roles. In this way, the 360-degree feedback can be rolled out across the wider organisation in an optimally efficient and cost-effective way.     What are the top 9 stress reducing board behaviours? The major influence on job-related stress at all levels is day-to-day leadership behaviour. When we translate the requirements identified by research into simple, comprehensible and actionable behaviours, they are within the power of every leader across the country, and our experience shows that they can be developed. For the culture to be right, influence starts at the very top.
