🚧 Highlights from UK Construction Week 🚧 What a week we had a UK Construction Week! It was fantastic to hear from key industry leaders like Mark Reynolds, Chief Exec at Mace, Michael O’Hagen, MD at Keltbray, and Nick Smallwood, Chief Exec at the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA), along with hundreds of others who are driving the future of construction. It was also a brilliant opportunity to connect with major players like Mace, Morgan Sindall, Balfour Beatty, and Laing O’Rourke. Reconomy sponsored the Net Zero Hero Hub facilitating useful discussions about the key challenges affecting the construction sector such as: - Innovative Solutions to the UK’s Water Scarcity Challenge - Harnessing Purpose and Partnerships for a Circular Construction Sector - Nature and Biodiversity: A Guide for Development - Unpacking the Buildings and Climate Agenda: Standards, Data, Skills, and Value Chain - Collaborative Achievements in Green & Blue Infrastructure - Leadership in Sustainability A key theme that stood out across all of these sessions was collaboration – we can’t tackle the construction industry’s challenges alone. One standout session, Better Together, led by Balfour Beatty’s Group Head of Social Impact, really emphasised how partnerships are essential for advancing the circular economy. And a fantastic overview from our very own Dave Gudgeon on Navigating the latest legislative changes in the waste industry. Most definitely one to watch as the timeline for change is on the close horizon so it is important to be prepared now for #SimplerRecycling and other legislation changes. At Reconomy we’re proud to be supporting the construction sector in myriad different ways: 1️⃣ Driving the Circular Economy: We’re empowering construction companies to recycle, reuse, and repurpose materials, reducing waste and helping shift toward a sustainable, circular business model. 2️⃣ Waste Management Experts: Our solutions streamline waste handling on construction sites, cutting costs, improving efficiency, and keeping materials out of landfills. 3️⃣ Sustainable Supply Chains: Through data-driven insights, we help businesses improve supply chain performance, source sustainably, and reduce overall waste. 4️⃣ Fostering Partnerships: As seen at our Net Zero Hero Hub, we’re all about collaboration. By connecting industry leaders, we’re driving innovation in green infrastructure, carbon reduction, and sustainable design. 5️⃣ Compliance Made Easy: With evolving environmental regulations, we help companies track and report sustainability metrics, ensuring they meet all compliance standards. 6️⃣ Continuous Improvement: Our hubs and consultancy services keep businesses at the forefront of sustainability, turning challenges into real opportunities for growth and progress. Together, we can and will build a more sustainable future for the construction industry! 💪 #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #NetZero #Construction #Reconomy

🌍♻️ Transforming the Textile Industry: A Circular Future Begins Now! Did you know that the EU generates a staggering 12.6 million tonnes of textile waste each year? 😱 Yet, only 1% is recycled into new clothing. With new regulations on the horizon, like the European Commission's proposal for mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles, the need for change is urgent. But why does this matter? Textiles are among the top contributors to environmental harm, with recycling often being a tough task due to their complex composition. The EPR scheme is here to change that by pushing for circular solutions—reducing waste, conserving water, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. 🌿 At Reconomy, we’re taking action with our innovative service, ReDress. Launched in 2024, ReDress helps businesses comply with EPR by offering cutting-edge data management, environmental compliance, and omni-channel take-back and repair services. What’s the impact? EPR is set to revolutionise the recycling market, driving investment, job creation, and rapid innovation in textile production. The future of fashion lies in reusable, recyclable materials, and we’re here to lead the charge! 🚀 We’re laying the groundwork for a sustainable future, building the infrastructure for textile reuse and recycling that will change the game. From logistics to data standardization, our efforts are paving the way for a more circular economy. Ready to join the movement? As we eagerly await the news of our next winner, here is a look at our last winner. We were thrilled to hand over the Think Circular winner’s certificate in person to Iain MacFadyen from Sanofi during a face-to-face meeting with Reconomy's Head of Circular Solutions, David Seal-Yates. It was an great moment to celebrate RePen’s game-changing insulin pen recycling initiative, which has made a significant impact on reducing medical waste in the UK! 💡 𝗥𝗲𝗣𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 tackles the 1.5 thousand tonnes of disposable insulin pens that end up in UK landfills each year. Here’s how it works: insulin pen users request a prepaid return envelope, fill it with up to 12 used pens, and send it back for free. From there, the pens are sent to a recycling centre where the materials are separated and transformed into new products: 🔄 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 is endlessly recycled and reused in glass manufacturing. 🔄 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 is melted, purified, and reused in new manufacturing processes. 🔄 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 are turned into Myboard, a weatherproof and recyclable material that can be repurposed into furniture—and, at the end of its lifecycle, recycled again into new Myboard! This initiative is a fantastic step forward for sustainability in healthcare, reducing waste and transforming it into valuable resources. Iain MacFadyen shared Sanofi’s excitement: “This award aligns perfectly with Sanofi’s sustainability strategy, which is a top priority both in the UK and globally. We are thrilled to see RePen’s success and hope this marks the beginning of more initiatives that will make a meaningful impact now and for the future of our planet.” This project is proof that innovation and collaboration can create a more sustainable future for healthcare. Together, we’re working toward a greener, healthier planet. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Innovation #Recycling #Healthcare #RePen #Reconomy #ThinkCircular #WasteReduction #SustainableHealthcare

With over 100 billion garments produced annually, changing the linear “take, make, dispose” model of the fashion industry to a circular one is no small feat. 🚧 From the underutilisation of clothes to the complexities of recycling blended fabrics, the challenges are numerous. Current recycling technologies aren’t widespread or economically viable, and the fast fashion model encourages overconsumption. But there are opportunities too! With emerging recycling technologies, take-back schemes, and eco-design legislation, the industry can overcome these challenges and create a more sustainable future. Governments, brands, and consumers must work together to make the circular economy not just a possibility, but the new standard. By doing so, we can significantly reduce fashion’s environmental impact and utilised, not discarded. At Reconomy, we’re working with brands to educate consumers on how to engage in sustainable practices – from reuse and recycling to responsible disposal. Together, we can make circular fashion the new normal and build a more sustainable world for future generations to come. https://okt.to/CLP3cG #Sustainablility #CircularEconomy #Fashion #FastFashion #CircularFashion #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #SDGs #WasteReduction #Reconomy
