Great to see progress on the regeneration of the Westbrook centre with our partners UBS Exciting times ahead for 2024 Forge_Kn
Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service Youth Engagement Service (YES) have delivered another successful youth engagement workshop with developers Reef Group and UBS. The youth engagement workshops, which took place on 15 and 28 November 2023, with 60 Year 5 and 6 students from Milton Road Primary School, aim to obtain local children’s ideas for a play park and the public realm areas for the redevelopment proposal for the Westbrook Centre in Cambridge. The site is located within walking distance to the school and the proposal aims to support the research and development industry in a sustainable location, with a play park and large landscaped areas for the local community to enjoy. The students took part in a site visit to understand the site context and ran a SWOT analysis to explore the site’s development potentials and how best to improve the walking and cycling experience to school. They also attended various workshops to design the proposed play area, street furniture and bird boxes for the landscaped areas to ensure the public realm design would meet the specific needs of the local children. Children’s design ideas are then reflected in the landscape proposals. In addition, the students learnt about the different career options in the built environment from urban design, town planning and architecture professionals. We would like to thank developers Olivia Frew and Yuan Xing Lisa Liu from the Reef Group and planning agent Amelia Robson from Savills for the great collaboration. We look forward to seeing the next stage of the development proposal. Congratulations to the Urban R design, architecture and construction division of Reef another example of planning and delivery capability this time in hotels.
The upcoming Store Hotel marks an exciting transformation of the esteemed Boswell’s Department Store in Oxford. Formerly the city's largest independently run department store, Boswells is now undergoing a meticulous repurposing into a new 4-star hotel, complemented by a thoughtful refurbishment and extension of its existing structures. The hotel's design aims to breathe life into Broad Street and Cornmarket Street through vibrant ground-floor activities, fostering a dynamic streetscape that positively impacts Oxford's economy and the surrounding area. The project designed by Urban R features Aluprof's systems that are fabricated and installed by Alu-Fix Facades Ltd. The main contractor of this prestigious project is Gilbert-Ash #aluprofUK #aluprof #aluminiumwindows #aluminiumdoors #curtainwalling #construction #architecture #aluprofadvent2023
