📢 BIG NEWS! Today we’re excited to share ReLondon's first ever impact report - packed full of evidence for the positive impact we had during the 2022-23 financial year, as well as case studies showing how we're helping to accelerate the transition to a low carbon circular economy in London. We examine our impact with London’s local authorities, businesses, and citizens; and we showcase work done in our some of our focus areas, which are food, textiles, plastics, electricals and electronics, and the built environment. Some key highlights include: ♻ 83% of local authorities who engaged with our work saying that we've helped enhance their knowledge and competencies to take actions to embed circular practices 📈 Supporting 119 businesses to adopt or scale viable and attractive circular business models across London, helping create 225 circular jobs among those businesses 🙌 80% of Londoners who saw our 'Be that person' campaign saying that they had been recycling more in the past six months, compared to only 54% of those who hadn't seen the campaign. ... and much more! Today is our least favourite day of the year - it's #EarthOvershootDay, the date when humanity’s demand on natural resources surpasses Earth’s capacity to regenerate them for the given year. 😱 Source: https://zurl.co/mD5n Essentially this means we're using nature 1.7 times faster than our planet’s ecosystems can regenerate - i.e. we need 1.7 Earths to keep up with our current consumption habits. Clearly something has to change! At ReLondon, our citizen engagement work aims to encourage Londoners to adopt more sustainable behaviours, such as buying and wasting less stuff, and reusing, repairing, sharing, renting and recycling more. But we continually come up against numerous barriers in this work - not least the concern that we're 'telling people how to live their lives' - but also because we're competing against corporate brands' large marketing budgets that promote overconsumption on a daily basis. 📃 We explore these barriers further in our latest article and explain why we need to better fund behaviour change work to challenge overconsumption and tackle the climate emergency. Have a read here ➡ https://zurl.co/8cdu We'll be talking about all of this in much more depth at our upcoming webinar: 'How to talk about consumption, without talking about consumption' on Tuesday 13th August, 2-3pm (BST). 📅 Register here ➡ https://zurl.co/QaLC #MoveTheDate #sustainability #sustainableconsumption #circulareconomy #circularity #zerowaste #zerowasteeconomy

📢 Mark your diaries! Registrations are now open for our next webinar: How to talk about consumption without talking about consumption. Join us as we explore the trepidation of many in the policy sphere around talking about consumption – how we consume ‘stuff’, including food, and how we ask citizens to consume less or differently. Our expert panel will discuss research about people’s relationship with consumption and sustainability; and give examples of communications and campaigns that have done it well (or not so well). We'll delve into the barriers around talking about consumption – for policymakers, businesses, communities, individuals – and discuss what needs to change to help engage citizens more effectively and motivate behaviour change towards more sustainable lifestyles at the pace and scale needed to help tackle the climate emergency. Speakers: - Ali Moore - Head of communications and behaviour change, ReLondon (Chair) - Dan Bennett - Consulting Partner & UK Lead, Behavioural Science, Ogilvy - Laura Costello - Head of Sustainability & Planet Services, THINKHOUSE - Oliver Pattenden - Global Research & Insight Director, The Sustainability Studio, Accenture Song - Poppy Mason-Watts - Chief Growth/Impact Officer, WaterBear Network 📅 Tuesday 13th August | 2:00-3:00pm BST 🖱 Register here ➡ https://lnkd.in/epwPm-5Z 💻 See you there! #circulareconomy #consumption #sustainablelifestyle #behaviourchange #campaigns
