So the 78th British Academy Film Awards (the BAFTAs to you and me) have been and gone for another year. In true awards season style, the British contingent of the annual awards circuit gave us glamour, art, talent, skill, scope, and spectacle. As well as having an excellent local film industry, with so many British crew amongst the nominees and winners, the U.K. continues to stand out as a hotbed of talent and as a location of choice for filmmaking - for local & global productions. With studio facilities amongst the best in the world and crew at the top of their game, many international films choose to film here, such as Wicked, which was up for an award for Special Visual Effects. However, we excel when it comes to crew. With so many British crew & technical specialists up for awards, we have an embarrassment of riches here. Many Brits were nominated in the Costume Design, Original Score, Sound Design, Animation, Adapted Screenplay, Casting, and Visual Effects categories as well as Directors and Actors. Some days at the office are more fun than others! Following the incredible success of Traitors series 3, I'm excited to share my small role in ensuring the safety of the contestants and crew during filming. The RT Group specializes in providing specialist risk management services, that encompass water and rope safety, and general safety during the build, shoot and challenges, as well as medical support. When the main RT risk management team asked for a crash test dummy for challenge testing, I volunteered for the role. All jokes aside, a considerable amount of preparation and challenge testing is conducted by both the production and RT risk management team. Dangling members of the public underneath a helicopter over the Scottish Highlands involves a methodical approach to ensure a high risk activity is executed safely.
