  • There is a recycling gap in the United States. A recent study by Reputation Leaders found that while 9 out of 10 Americans are aware cell phones can be disposed of via recycling and special disposal programs. Despite this, According to the EPA, fewer than 20% of unwanted cell phones are recycled each year. Young people tend to do a better job of repairing or donating old electronics, which are also effective solutions alongside recycling. But why bother recycling? Cell phones contain valuable resources and materials, and recycling enhances sustainability by enabling the reuse of these materials while reducing pollution and emissions. If you are no longer using a phone, consider repairing, donating, or recycling it. It’s just one little step we can take that together makes a big difference for our planet. #ZeroWasteDay #recycle #internationdayofzerowaste #zerowaste2025 #zerowasteday2025 #recycling #sustainability

  • Younger Americans favor healthcare for the underserved, whereas boomers are more focused on their own health Gen Z and Millennials are focused on supporting underserved communities (46%) and expanding mental health resources (46%). In contrast, only around 1 in 6 is interested in age-specific care (17%). However, twice as many baby boomers (34%) as younger Americans (17%) see age-specific care as a priority. They, in turn, see helping underserved communities with free clinics and expanding mental health resources with hotlines and campaigns as less important (both dropping 20% to 31%). Working Americans across generations (51% of Gen Z and Millennials, and 43% of Boomers) agree that it is important for US employers to provide employee healthcare benefits. Reputation Leaders polled 1,000 adult Americans in February 2025, asking, ‘What actions should companies in the US prioritize to address US healthcare?’. • Exciting news – Reputation Leaders’ research with The Home Depot is live in the Financial Times! We found that most people (65%) look forward to spring cleaning (rather than it being a chore), with 85% reporting that it benefits their mental health and well-being. 4 out of 5 (80%) say that they feel a sense of accomplishment once it’s done. Find out more interesting data about grilling, gardening, and DIY in the Financial Times article here: https://buff.ly/m1vaZ6l. Reputation Leaders polled 5,000 adult Americans aged 21 and older. Respondents were homeowners or renters who had undertaken a home improvement/spring cleaning project last year for The Home Depot’s ‘What Are You Working On? – Spring Project Report’. #Research #ConsumerResearch #TheHomeDepot #ReputationLeaders

Looking at the four pillars of reputation in the image below, this shows a shift of emphasis from ‘Brand’ to ‘People’. The takeaway? • What do Americans think of companies’ reactions to the recent changes to DEI policies? The simple answer - 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲. Changes in diversity hiring, promotions, and practices by U.S. companies to adapt to the current administration have not gone unnoticed. Reputation Leaders’ February 2025 survey of 1000 Adult Americans nationally found that three out of five Americans (61%) believe companies will now focus less on hiring diverse employees. Nearly three out of five Americans (58%) surveyed think companies will change their values to match those of the current government. And they’re not wrong. BlackRock omitted diversity references in its latest annual report, just three years after CEO Larry Fink said the company “must embed DEI into everything we do” (Forbes, 2025), with Target acting similarly (WSJ, 2025). However, this retreat is not universal; Costco, Microsoft, Apple, and McKinsey have all stuck to their stance on diversity. So, do these changes matter for companies that have chosen to change their stance? At the end of 2024, Reputation Leaders asked Americans about the most important issues for companies to focus on in 2025. The number one (88%) consumer expectation for U.S. companies in 2025 was integrity—doing what they say and sticking to it. Unfortunately, integrity is rarely convenient, especially in a divided political environment. Nevertheless, Reputation Leader’s research suggests that brands that stay true to their values are more likely to be respected by the public and their employees in the long term. • The factors that help workers be more productive are not necessarily the solutions most promoted by employers. We asked American workers which of the following help you perform best at work? (Ranked top 3) Here’s what we found: -Workers say ensuring jobs work around their lives is the key to performing well at work. -Workplace/professional support, and setting boundaries ranked lower, with workplace wellness sessions least often in the top 3. -Flexible working was more important to female workers (64%). -Physical activity was more important to workers over 55 (44%). #hiring #retention #worklifebalance #healthyworkplace #flexibleworking #hr

  • In a recent poll, 37% of Americans think 2025 will not be a good year for women. “This is a conflicted world. But some things are genuinely solvable. Helping women become more equal in society; making life easier for working families; creating communities and jobs where more people can thrive and rise — these are all on that list.” – Indra Nooyi, Former PepsiCo CEO A survey of 1,000 American adults in February 2025 by research agency Reputation Leaders uncovered that 37% in total and 44% of American women think 2025 will not be a good year for women. Only 30% of Americans polled felt positive that 2025 will be a good year for women. So why this pessimism about women’s future in 2025? Possible contributing factors include economic uncertainty, inflation and cost of living, a rolling back of DEI initiatives, and a host of return-to-office mandates. According to the World Economic Forum, at the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158 (roughly five generations from now) to reach full gender parity (WEF, 2024). Although the first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1909, many 2025 public and corporate directives are acting to put gender parity on the back burner. Reputation Leaders consumer research found that treating all employees well, women included, is more important to a company’s reputation than being customer-oriented, having good environmental sustainability initiatives, or being financially successful. Employers that prioritize their employees and develop a holistic, long-term strategy to retain female talent will be rewarded with loyalty. This includes a long-term perspective on developing female leaders through to executive levels, spanning career breaks. #InternationalWomensDay #Reputation #AccelerateAction

  • Workers with more options feel more supported. “Global office attendance rates declined by 90% in 2020 and have since stabilized 30% lower than 2019 levels. Forecasts for 2030 remain lower than 2019. The increased flexibility for some could be causing resentment among their mandatory onsite peers. Most (57%) are 15% less likely than their hybrid peers (76%) to agree their organization supports their personal well-being and work-life balance.” – ManpowerGroup’s Accelerating Adaptability: 2025 Global Workforce Trends Report. • The solitary genius trope is misleading. Here’s why: Popular culture frequently champions the solitary genius, whether it’s adoration for Steve Jobs or, more recently and somewhat controversially, Musk. Movies like Oppenheimer, Imitation Game, and the string of recent musician biopics also lean into this idea. While researching about Nobel Prize winners recently, we came across a different story. In Physics, Medicine, and Economics the majority of prizes were shared and in Chemistry and Peace they made up a significant proportion (45% and 33% respectively) of prizes. Only Literature was dominated by solo prizes, reflecting its solitary nature. For the most part, breakthroughs come from teams. So, let’s ditch solo success and build winning teams instead.
