Much of Uganda's discarded plastic is abandoned and burned in open land, causing damage to the environment and people's health. Eco Brixs has come up with a solution ♻️ As CEO and Founder Andy Bownds explains, they have created a closed loop recycling system that empowers the community. People are given job opportunities to collect plastic waste which is then recycled into useful products like fence posts and paving slabs. These items are sold locally – usually at a lower cost than their non-recycled competitors. Since we filmed with them back in April 2021, Eco Brixs has continued working towards their vision of a waste-free world. To mark Plastic Free July we're revisiting the RE:TV contributors innovating solutions to the plastic crisis around the world. "The good news is that farming, having been part of the problem for most of my farming lifetime, could become part of the solution." As Patrick Holden from Sustainable Food Trust explains, modern agriculture has become disconnected from the natural world. Our current methods are highly industrial and extractive – but there is another way. Farming in harmony with nature has a positive impact on both people and the planet 👩🌾🌍 RE:TV’s month-long season dedicated to #RegenerativeAgriculture is still underway. To learn why transforming the way we farm is essential to global food security, watch the extended interview with Patrick on our hub full of films and reports 👉 https://lnkd.in/eWg5eSsX

“This is a very unique technology that allows us to make bottles without extracting fossil fuels, which is incredibly exciting." It's great to see RE:TV contributor LanzaTech join forces with PepsiCo to create sustainable packaging solutions 🤝 The pair are teaming up to capture industrial carbon emissions before they enter the atmosphere and convert the gas to plastic, which can then be used to make beverage bottles. Both companies are accelerating climate solutions through their involvement with the Sustainable Markets Initiative. PepsiCo is a member of the Agribusiness Task Force, and LanzaTech was awarded the 2023 Terra Carta Seal. "It's not enough to be a disruptive technology, we've got to disrupt the entire system." It is estimated that 80% of all plastic ever produced has ended up in landfill or the natural environment. As Niall Dunne from Polymateria explains, to address the issue of plastic pollution, we must set a new standard. The company has developed a unique solution. Their Biotransformation technology allows plastics to biodegrade naturally when they are no longer useful 🧃 Since we filmed with them in July 2020, Polymateria has continued breaking down boundaries in plastic innovation. They were recently nominated for the GREEN AWARDS, which celebrate cutting-edge sustainability projects. "Do we need a better agricultural system to feed the world? The answer is yes." Food is responsible for a third of all global emissions, but Regenerative Agriculture offers a way of reducing emissions from our food system at the same time as regenerating ecosystems and removing carbon 🥕 The challenge for Regenerative Agriculture is one of scale – can it produce enough food for our growing population? Patrick Holden and Adele Jones from Sustainable Food Trust, Julie Greene from Olam Agri, and Alexander Gillett from HowGood all work at the forefront of the agricultural transition - and collaborate through the Sustainable Markets Initiative's Agribusiness Task Force 🌱 To learn more about their insights into this growing movement, watch the brand new tentpole film on our Regenerative Agriculture Hub (link in the comments 👇)

"For me personally, it's a passion that we respect the people whose traditional lands that we work on." For many years, Jason Edworthy led BluEarth Renewables’ partnerships with First Nations communities on clean energy projects. At Culliton Creek in British Columbia, he worked closely with the Squamish Nation to build a new low impact, run-of-river hydro plant 💧 Indigenous representatives were involved in the planning and design of the project, provided many of the contractors who built the plant, and benefit economically from the plant's energy supply. This partnership shows that renewable energy doesn't have to cost the earth 🌎 All of us at RE:TV would like to wish Jason a long and happy retirement. It’s well deserved! The way we grow our food is important. Much of the environmental impact of the food we eat is already determined before it leaves the farm gate, for example, through the use of fertilisers 🍅 Understanding on-farm impact is vital to any food company looking to reduce their carbon emissions. To make meaningful change, they must have access to accurate data. HowGood has a solution. Their database provides sustainability measurement and reporting for key players in the food and beverage industry, accelerating the shift to regenerative practices at scale.
