How are your peers approaching emerging risk? 🔭 Download 5 key takeaways from our recent emerging risk benchmark, which explores how risk leaders at 46 multinational organisations identify, monitor and report on emerging risks: https://lnkd.in/egEPQdZV We created this benchmark to support a number of our members who are working on setting up and optimising their emerging risk framework. Download the non-member highlights from the benchmark to discover: ☑️ What % of your peers have an established emerging risk framework? ☑️ How do risk leaders source external emerging risk data and intelligence? ☑️ Do your peers have early warning systems in place for emerging risks? ☑️ How often do risk leaders report on emerging risk, and in what format? ☑️ How are leading risk practitioners aligning emerging risk and strategy planning? Please get in touch with us if you'd like to be involved, as a guest*, in any of the follow-up collaborations that we're facilitating to support our members on their specific challenges in emerging risk. * We permit prospective members to participate in one member collaboration prior to joining. Prospective members must be practising risk leaders at large non-financial institutions in Europe, Oceania or MENA.

"Risk culture goes beyond bouncing back. It's about creating an environment where risk management is as natural as your morning coffee routine." Great thoughts from Ayo Elizabeth J. and thank you for sharing your valuable insights and lessons learned at one of our recent virtual meetings. We love having you (and the senior Anglo American risk team) as members of our collaborative network! 🙌

I recently had the opportunity to speak at the Risk Leadership Network about engaging stakeholders on risk culture. During the Q&A, someone asked a question that took me on a trip down memory lane: "What is the value of risk culture, and how do you even define it?" Suddenly, I was back in 2008, watching the global financial crisis unfold. Remember those days? The aftermath brought a tidal wave of regulatory changes and a laser focus on corporate culture. It was a wake-up call for Risk Practitioners like us to step up and guide boards on governance, risk, and culture. Fast forward to today, and the question still stands: What's the real value of Risk Culture? It starts with recognizing that corporate culture isn't just about casual Fridays or team-building exercises (though those are great too!). It's about how your organization approaches its goals and vision. As Stephen Haddril, former chief executive of the Financial Reporting Council, wisely pointed out - a healthy corporate culture is a competitive advantage that creates long-term value. And I couldn't agree more! Here's the kicker: We shouldn't wait for a crisis to address company culture. As risk practitioners, we have a crucial role to play in shaping this proactive approach. Think about it - in recent years, we've seen everything from a global pandemic to geopolitical conflicts. The mantra has been "Companies need to be resilient." But resilience is just part of the equation. Risk culture goes beyond just bouncing back. It's about creating an environment where risk management is as natural as your morning coffee routine. It's about: ▪️Integrating risk management into daily operations ▪️Proactively anticipating and identifying threats AND opportunities ▪️Managing both the downside AND upside of risk By embedding sound risk management into your company's DNA, you're not just preparing for stormy weather - you're setting sail for success, come rain or shine! So, my fellow risk enthusiasts and business leaders, let's champion risk culture. It's not just a buzzword - it's the foundation of a truly resilient and thriving organization. And trust me, it's a lesson we don't want to learn the hard way again. What are your thoughts on risk culture? How has it evolved in your organization since the 2008 crisis? Let's start a conversation in the comments! #RiskCulture #CorporateResilience #BusinessStrategy #RiskManagement #LeadershipInsights #FinancialCrisisLessons

Download our Aligned Assurance checklist ✅ This quarter, several risk leaders in our network are focusing on developing and optimising an aligned assurance framework. By facilitating peer collaboration, we've been supporting each member with their specific challenge within aligned assurance. We've captured the insights from these collaborations in an Aligned Assurance checklist summarising the key steps CROs and heads of risk are taking at each level of the aligned assurance journey: foundational, implementation and optimisation: https://lnkd.in/emnfVevP Thank you to James Keneally and all the RLN members who shared their knowledge and experience of getting aligned assurance to work in practice.

Collaboration with stakeholders is vital... 🤝 When selecting and embedding KRIs in your organisation, it's really important to involve the business. A number of our our members have raised setting KRIs and linking them to risk appetite as a key priority. So we facilitated a series of virtual collaborative meetings for them to share approaches, and learn from CROs/heads of risk who had successfully set and embedded appetite in their organisations. In one of those meetings, they discussed approaches and lessons learned when collaborating with stakeholders when establishing and embedding KRIs. Here are fives of those approaches, made available to risk leaders outside our network: https://lnkd.in/ekhVJinj

How are your peers capturing, analysing and reporting on emerging risks? 🔭 To support a number of our members with their emerging risk priorities, we're producing a new emerging risk benchmark. We've already got data from companies listed on FTSE, ASX and the S&P, as well as some of the largest privately-owned non-financial institutions, but we're now giving you the opportunity to participate (<10 minute survey) and receive the full benchmark report: Request to participate here: https://lnkd.in/dzsJi67S All data is confidential and anonymised in the benchmark report. The report benchmarks: ✅ What methods your peers are using to identify and analyse emerging risks ✅ What approaches risk leaders are taking to report emerging risks ✅ How multinational organisations are incorporating emerging risks into strategic planning and decision-making. Just fill in this form to request to participate by 18th July and we'll send you the link for the survey. This benchmark is for heads of risk/CROs (or the most senior person in your organisation overseeing the emerging risk management framework) at large non-financial organisations.

What's driving your business to change its perception of ERM? 👀 There's one thing in particular that is pushing boards and the executive committee to see their risk teams in a potentially different light.... During a number of collaborative virtual meetings this month, several risk teams have flagged that they are being asked different questions by senior leaders, and we're noticing a common theme. Cast your vote to see how your experiences compare to peers. And when the poll is over we'll tell you more about the trend we're referring to and the discussions between risk leaders at some of the largest non-financial institutions globally. 👇

How often do you get to see the risk appetite statements used at other organisations? 🤔 There is no right way to draft a risk appetite statement. But being able to see what peers cover in theirs, and how they present theirs effectively is invaluable. To support some of our members who were creating or revising their risk appetite statements, we collected real-life examples from practising risk leaders at multi-national organisations. We shared anonymised versions of those templates with our members to give them inspiration and validate their approach. Now we're sharing some of these with the wider risk community. https://lnkd.in/e8g4Rnau Many of our other members are further along their risk appetite journey, and we're supporting them as they operationalise risk appetite throughout their organisations. To find out more about the collaborations we're facilitating on operationalising risk appetite, please get in touch with us.
