Telling the river’s story.
About us
The River & Rowing Museum inspires escape and exploration, telling the many stories of the River Thames and celebrating the wildlife that calls it home. Beyond its beautiful riverside location in Henley on Thames and award-winning building, the Museum’s doors open onto art, history, conservation and the international sport of rowing. The galleries include interactive displays and stories and objects of international significance, including the family-friendly ‘Wind in the Willows’ gallery and a dedicated gallery to the work of Modern British artist John Piper, which opened in 2016 following successful crowd-funding with the support of the Art Fund. In addition, the Museum hosts a lively programme of special exhibitions from partners such as the National Portrait Gallery, the Ashmolean, Seven Stories, the V&A and the Hayward Gallery. Working closely with local partners, the Museum’s Community Gallery showcases a wide variety of local projects. Twice shortlisted for Family Friendly Museum of the Year, the Museum is a registered educational charity, and welcomes children and adults taking part in its engaging and inspiring learning and events programme. The Museum’s Chocolate Café terrace overlooks Mill Meadows, and its shop celebrates local suppliers, specialising in children’s books and games, fashion and craft. As a charity receiving no ongoing public funding, the Museum relies on its visitors and supporters. Please help support the Museum’s future by becoming a Friend or making a donation.

This is VERY exciting! We are pleased to announce a programme of events relating to The Space Vault exhibition. Starting this month and running through to May next year, the programme includes eight 'Expert Talk' events and three 'Behind The Vault' sessions. Exhibition owner and curator, Dr Michael Warner, has secured some fascinating speakers for the expert talks, including an astronaut instructor and a space systems engineer, who will share their expertise and stories. The 'Behind The Vault' sessions will be hosted by Michael himself, and will allow a small group to get up-close to and hands-on with a specially curated selection of space artifacts. For full details and to book a space, visit https://lnkd.in/eTVcSDZv #Space #Museum #HenleyOnThames

It's impossible to set up a KPI for some of the most impactful things that a charity does. I remember when Ashley started at Fulham Reach Boat Club with Hammersmith Academy and it's incredible to see the journey she has been on and how rowing has impacted her life so dramatically. I know now with the River & Rowing Museum that we are repeating this by providing inspirational stories linked to our rivers which will stay with people for a lifetime. The spreadsheet always has to turn from red to green, but we also need to be able to record the impact we are having on peoples lives each and every day. Steve #river #rowing #museum #impact
This time last week, I had the honour of attending the Fulham Reach Boat Club 10th Anniversary! 🎉 It was such an honour to catch up with and hear former ceo Steven O'Connor talk about how he started the organisation and his aims. As someone who also got to experience it first hand through Hammersmith Academy sixth form, it made me reflect on all the positive experiences I have had through this organisation, and now I hope to provide the same. It was also wonderful to hear all that Adam Freeman-Pask has achieved as the current ceo and all he plans to achieve. I am looking forward to seeing Adam and the team continue to take the club from strength to strength. A truly wholesome and inspiring event! I am so grateful to be part of Fulham Reach Boat Club. #rowing #inclusivesport #opportunity #sport

The River & Rowing Museum social team (me!) has been let loose in Henley for some old school face to face marketing today. My colleague Richard Pinches is here too, promoting his Henley History Walks. We’re enjoying the sunshine (for now!) and I’m loving talking to people about the museum. #Marketing #HenleyOnThames #Museum #TallPaulTalks
