  • CAN I HAVE SOME FEET? 😬 No we aren’t still merry from the weekend, this is the favourite way we get asked for pedestals! This weeks Jargon busting is PEDESTALS! WHAT ❓ A pedestal is a galvanised steel structure made up of the base, the tube, nut and the head. Pedestals come in a range of heights from 26mm through to bespoke pedestal heights of over 1m. WHERE ❓ Pedestals are either adhesively or mechanically fixed to the sub floor beneath the panels WHY ❓ Pedestals provide the under structure beneath the panel they also work to mark out the grid system that panels are laid upon. • JARGON BUSTING – Tanking and bunding Another week so let’s kick off with some more jargon busting from the world of raised flooring! WHAT ❓- It is a waterproof membrane and a bunding angle to enclose the space WHERE ❓The membrane is applied in any areas where leaks could occur such as beneath tea point/kitchen areas. HOW❓- The membrane is applied to the sub floor beneath the raised floor. And the bund angle is installed to create a barrier around the membrane WHY ❓The area works with the leak detection system to alert that a leak has occurred, enabling the water to be shut off, the leak stopped and resolved before the water spreads to the rest of the floor. What shall we jargon bust next week – let us know in the comments below!   #raisedfloor #jargonbusting #accessfloor

  • GLOBAL RECYCLING DAY 2025 ♻️ So what does recycling actually mean? A quick google search and we found this definition 👇 ‘the action or process of converting waste into reusable material’ Which got us thinking – this is what we already do on a daily basis at RMF. We take second hand raised floor that would typically be taken as a waste stream and we; 🔍 hand clean, inspect and check every panel 🔬 Randomly test panels to confirm they are still performing as a medium grade panel ♻️ We re-install them back onto new pedestals giving them a 25 year full system warranty. It also got us thinking of other ways we recycle outside of the office too some great examples from the team are; 👗Buying and selling unwanted clothes on marketplaces like Vinted  💄 Used make up take back points at places like Boots UK and Superdrug  ☕ Coffee pod and battery recycling at Aldi UK Do you have any other examples of recycling you can share with us? Let us know in the comments. #globalrecyclingday #seventhresource #recycling #takebackschemes

  • JARGON BUSTING – T42 Test WHAT ❓This is a test completed on a sample of pedestals to confirm the adhesion of the pedestal to the sub floor. WHY ❓The test is to confirm if adhesive fixing is sufficient to bond the pedestal to the sub floor or if mechanical fixing is required. HOW ❓ A 3KG canvas or leather bag is swung at an angle of 90 degrees 1 metre from the pedestal to confirm adhesion remains to the sub floor. Have you got any jargon busting you can add to next weeks? Throw some ideas at us. Or call the experts for any raised floor Q’s on 01926 425289 or info@rmf-services.co.uk #raisedfloor #computerfloor #accessfloor
