On Saturday, 200 Girlguiding members from across South England gathered in Poole for a fun-filled day learning vital water safety skills and earning their limited 200th anniversary Mayday badges! 🏅 Guides, Rangers, and Brownies from Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, and Somerset visited the RNLI College to discover how the RNLI saves lives at sea and learn how they too can make a difference. The event marks a year of partnership between the RNLI and Girlguiding South West England, empowering girls with the knowledge to stay safe in, on, and near water. In this time more than 5,000 Mayday badges have been ordered, and the partnership has spread to two more RNLI regions, and looks set to go even further. The day was a fantastic team effort from our South West and South East Water Safety teams, our Engineering department – and some amazing apprentices, our International team, and Lifeguards from as far afield as Pembrokeshire. One of our key goals this year is to inspire the next generation of supporters, crew, staff and lifeguards. Racheal Tattum, Chief Commissioner of Girlguiding South West England who attended the day, shared how she has seen that the initiative is sowing seeds – seeds of water safety knowledge, of who we are as a charity, and seeds that will inspire these girls to be part of our organisation in the future. And with many of them leaving considering careers as lifeguards, engineers, or crew members, the future looks bright! A big shout-out to our fantastic teams at the RNLI for their hard work and to the girls for their enthusiasm and commitment. Together, we are making a difference!
