How can sound be converted into an image? 🔈📷 Blind Camera creates images using sound instead of light. The device uses a custom-made artificial neural network to convert sound into image. It was trained with data from Mexico City restricting its interpretations of the world to this locale. We spoke to Diego Trujillo Pisanty about his work Blind Camera, which is the 2024 Lumen Prize Still Image Award Winner. Read our interview: https://lnkd.in/eG6BDXkh

A beautiful example of how art and technology are engaging with nature. "I find it really interesting the connection between using new technologies, like neural networks and algorithms and blockchain to engage with nature. They are very similar, it's something that is organically growing, you get all these connections in the blockchain, almost like a city that is getting slowly built, and how the digital database of everything is shaping up, like a plant or a root of a plant." - Ronen Tanchum Read our full interview, discussing the mesmeric art of Ronen Tanchum - https://lnkd.in/ef829FkV Work: Nature Streams

How are neural networks, algorithms and blockchain similar to nature? ⛓️ 🌸 For artist Ronen Tanchum, they have a lot in common: "You get all these connections in the blockchain, it is like a city that is getting built slowly. It is really fascinating the connection, how the digital database of everything is shaping up, like a plant or a root of a plant." Ronen is an artist and technologist, who explores the realms of generative art focusing on synthetic nature and the intricate interplay between humans, machines, and the environment. We spoke to him about his practice using emerging technology to interact beautifully with nature: https://lnkd.in/ef829FkV Work: Rococo, a digital painting created entirely with code that interprets and processes the natural world’s dichotomies. Created by Ori Ben-Shabat & Ronen Tanchum, Phenomena Labs.

How can art create new ways to communicate global issues? In 2018 the headlines announced the death of Sudan, the last male northern white rhinoceros - a subspecies lost to the imagined life-enhancing properties of the horn. In ‘The Substitute’ Dr Alexandra Daisy Ginsburg uses AI to bring back to life the extinct white rhino in a compelling and powerful video artwork. The white rhino is re-animated and brought back to life, making it impossible for what we have lost to be eradicated. The artwork empowers us to see the consequences of our actions, connecting with the reality of the loss and driving important change. How can technology and nature come together? Hypereikon are a generative artistic duo comprised of María Constanza Lobos and Sebastián Rojas. Hypereikon’s work opens up new ways of thinking about our relationship with technology and nature. Their mesmeric practice blends naturalistic elements with surreal, post-natural textures, creating evocative, dreamscape-like visions. We spoke to Hypereikon about how the digital and organic are coming together through generative systems, real-time creation and AI. Interview: https://lnkd.in/etDEXmgU
