We're delighted to welcome a new apprentice to one of our sites! Charlie is a trainee carpenter with our subcontractors at CHIPPIE CONTRACTS LIMITED and started working at our Sutherland Park development in Hythe this week after attending a site visit alongside other EKC Folkestone College students with an interest in a career in construction earlier in the month. Charlie will be learning the ropes with first fix and second fix carpentry. Our Operations Director, Paul Roddy, said: "Charlie now joins two other ex-students from EKC Folkstone who are learning their trade with our RNH Brickwork Division on-site. Its fantastic to see youngsters with an eagerness to learn a trade and have a long rewarding career in our industry." Welcome to the team, Charlie!

With National Apprenticeship Week recently taking place, we were delighted to welcome students from EKC Folkestone College to our new Sutherland Park site in Hythe earlier this week. Our visitors were keen to learn more about careers in construction, with several particularly interested in carpentry and brickwork apprenticeships. It was great to have them join us for the day and we hope they gained some valuable insights into what goes on behind the scenes in the housebuilding industry. We'd like to wish them all good luck with the rest of their studies and who knows, maybe we'll see some of them working on our sites in the future!

As you may have seen across our social channels this weekend, this year, for International Women's Day, we asked our female colleagues how they'd describe their female colleagues. This is what they had to say… "Amazing and very helpful!" "Knowledgeable, hardworking and a pleasure to work with!" "Talented and supportive. They bring great ideas, work well in a team and contribute a lot to our success. It’s great to work with them!" "Very helpful, supportive and encouraging!" And, in an industry where women make up just 15% of the workforce, we're delighted to be bucking the trend - 25% of our staff are female! From Accounts Managers to Senior Quantity Surveyors, these talented women are making the once male-dominated construction industry a more diverse, inclusive and rewarding place to work and we're proud to work alongside them every day. #InternationalWomensDay

We're delighted to announce that Roddy New Homes has recently become a member of the Structural Timber Association Ltd (STA)! Established to provide confidence in the use of structural timber in the construction industry and highlight its many benefits, the STA also supports and collaborates with its members, and engages directly with government and industry bodies to influence regulation and legislation. As a house builder that uses timber frames on all our new homes, we firmly believe that timber is one of the most sustainable building materials within the construction industry, offering a raft of benefits including carbon reduction and a decreased environmental impact. We can't wait to get to work as one of the STA's newest members!
