It’s truly saddening to see the latest statistics from the US-based CDC, which reveal a rise in drowning deaths since 2020, with young children and older adults most affected. Public health experts attribute this increase to pandemic-related disruptions in swim safety education and lifeguard shortages, highlighting the urgent need for a renewed focus on water safety. We’re committed to supporting the water safety community by providing lifeguards with realistic training tools. However, we know this is just one part of a larger effort - #drowningprevention and swim education must remain a top priority for real change. Once FReD reaches a casualty in the water, it can easily tow them back to safety, or can be used as a buoy for the casualty to hold onto until a rescue swimmer arrives. It can even tow both casualty and the swimmer back to shore/lifeboat if required, as it can easily handle towing weights up to 250kg! Thanks to our partnership with the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK Commonwealth and International Life Saving Federation - ILS, Ruth Lee Pool Rescue Manikins are now helping to equip lifeguards in South Africa, Kenya, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Sri Lanka, and India with critical rescue skills. These donated manikins are already making a real difference in training, preparing lifeguards for challenging water rescue scenarios and ultimately supporting drowning prevention efforts.
