We've been learning a lot from the 4,000 cadets who attended our South East Asia Cadet Conference. The cadets overwhelmingly put permanent employment as the main reason for staying in the industry while time away from family and the way a company treated them would be their main reasons for leaving the industry. The majority said that the conference had helped them to become knowledgeable about the resources available to seafarers for maintaining their wellbeing and were confident they could access the services if they needed them. All our conferences have seen record-breaking attendance, but there is still time for cadets and ratings to secure a place at the next virtual events for UK and European cadets on November 6 Go to https://lnkd.in/eNz3KaBu #maritime #shippingindustry #maritimecadets

On Sunday, we concluded our #SkuldWalkingforSeafarers week, and we've done it again! Not only have we reached our goal of 15 million steps together, but we also exceeded it by a remarkable amount! 🎉     Thanks to everyone's commitment and walking efforts, we’ve managed to walk a total of 23 million steps! That's an average of over 67,000 steps per person throughout the week.     Through walking, cycling, swimming and various other activities, our collective efforts have once again brought us to this impressive milestone.🚶🚴🏊     This year, our funds go to the Sailors' Society to support the establishment of a helpline for female seafarers. This will provide a safe and confidential space for female seafarers to connect and share experiences, challenges, and achievements.       A huge thank you to everyone in Skuld for every step taken!    We encourage all our friends in the maritime industry to continue walking for seafarers 🌍 #SkuldWalkingforSeafarers #UNSDG3 #restassured.

We doubled the previous year’s numbers at our South East Asia Cadet Conference. During these events, cadets contribute their thoughts and experiences and this is shared in the Society’s annual cadet reports which provide unique data for the maritime industry. Some 81 per cent of cadets attending the South East Asia Conference said they saw maritime as a long-term career although half were concerned about getting their first contract. Funded by the TK Foundation, the South East Asia Conference was sponsored by Britannia P&I Club and TINDALL RILEY (P&I) LIMITED, as the managers of the Club. Look out for the next Sailors' Society Cadet Report coming out early 2025 #maritime #shippingindustry #wellnessatsea #cadets

What a great webinar thank you Ideagen Ideagen Tritan for hosting 'Peace of Mind - Seafarer Health and Safety' The speaker was our own Johan Smith, Head of Wellness at Sailors' Society. Identifying why wellness should matter to the industry, Johan shared insights from our new unique State of the Industry Snapshot into connectivity and wellbeing at sea. Johan made it clear that when it comes to wellness at sea, shipping companies need to pay attention to everyone. It's not just about boosting those who are identified as having below-average wellness, but it also has to be about maintaining levels among those who seem 'fine'. In October 1944 on an official tour of Scotland with her parents, the then Princess Elizabeth performed her first solo opening ceremony at the new Sailors' Home in Aberdeen. In declaring the building open she says it has been brought up to date through the care and enterprise of Sailors' Society which has done so much for the welfare of seamen. The late Queen Elizabeth II was our Patron for 70 years- right from her ascension to the throne and we shared the deep sadness at her passing with those in the maritime industry across the globe. We were delighted, when in May this year, His Majesty agreed to continue this royal support of our work, by accepting the patronage previously held by his late mother.

Our third global Sailors' Society cadet conference continues their record-breaking run! Almost 4,000 cadets attended our South East Asia Cadet Conference – sponsored by Britannia P&I Club TINDALL RILEY (P&I) LIMITED and funded by TK Foundation. This saw a doubling of the previous year’s numbers. All three of the global virtual events held so far have broken attendance records. We can be left in no doubt that young seafarers at the very start of their careers see our conferences, with insights from maritime employers to mental health and wellbeing advice, as a vital part of their preparation for a life at sea.
