Sandwell College was delighted to welcome back Eiman Guggar, a former Business student whose journey is nothing short of inspiring. Eiman joined our Business Level 2 Extended Certificate programme in 2019, progressing to complete her Extended Diploma in Business with a triple Distinction in 2022. She then went on to Aston University, where she is currently completing her placement year as part of her Business, Computing and IT degree. Beyond academics, Eiman has shown incredible entrepreneurial spirit, launching her own eyelash business and investment ventures. She credits the knowledge and skills gained in marketing, communication, customer service, and finance during her time at Sandwell College for giving her the confidence to set up and run her business successfully. She returned to inspire our current Level 2 students with an interactive session, sharing her journey of determination, growth, and success. Her story is a testament to where hard work, ambition, and the right skills can take you. A huge thank you to Eiman Guggar for sharing her experiences and to Tahir Noor for organising such a valuable session. Interested in Business, Finance, and Marketing courses? Sandwell College fashion students had an incredible opportunity to connect with the Birmingham Fashion Council as part of their Final Major Project. Natalie Sakinah, the founder of The Birmingham Fashion Council, visited to launch the project and share industry insights, helping students understand the realities of the fashion world and the skills needed to succeed. Many of our students have already gained valuable hands-on experience through work placements at The Birmingham Fashion Council’s annual fashion show. They’ve developed teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and adaptability skills by welcoming guests, supporting the welcome ceremony, and working backstage with designers to dress models for the catwalk. We’re excited to continue this partnership, as The Birmingham Fashion Council will be involved in the students’ projects and presenting awards at the Sandwell College Festival of Arts in June. Experiences like these bridge the gap between education and industry, helping students gain the practical skills, confidence, and industry connections they need for their future careers. Year 12 AS Politics students from Cadbury Sixth Form College had an unforgettable experience in London, immersing themselves in the heart of UK democracy. The visit began with a tour of the Houses of Parliament, where students explored both the House of Commons and House of Lords chambers, gaining firsthand insight into where key political decisions are made. This was followed by an engaging workshop led by the UK Parliament Education Team, which deepened their understanding of how the UK’s political system operates. To round off the day, students took part in an inspiring Question and Answer session with Laurence Turner, MP for Birmingham Northfield, who shared valuable insights into the role of MPs and the importance of parliamentary representation. It was a truly rewarding experience that not only enhanced students’ academic knowledge but also strengthened their appreciation for the role of Parliament in ensuring democracy and representing the voices of the people - all while equipping them with transferable skills for their future studies and careers. Our Level 2 Painters & Decorators recently gained invaluable hands-on experience at Let’s Chat Hub, West Bromwich Bus Station, where they completed 30 hours of on-site work experience. The group demonstrated key industry skills, including surface preparation, application of paint systems using brush and roller, and working at height using a range of access equipment. They also carried out a verbal risk assessment on-site and ensured all tools and equipment were properly cleaned after use. This experience provided an excellent opportunity for students to apply their skills in a real working environment, enhancing their confidence and practical abilities. Well done to everyone involved! #WorkExperience #PaintingAndDecorating #SkillsForTheFuture #HandsOnLearning #WestBromwich
