It was fantastic to see each apprentice confidently present their journey so far, showcasing the skills and knowledge they’ve developed. A huge thank you to SIAS for expertly explaining the End-Point Assessment process. Today was excellent preparation for what’s ahead. • Our Public Services and Access to HE: Social Science & Law students took on the challenge of solving a (fictional!) missing person case at University of Staffordshire! Under the expert guidance of Lee Crowther, Lecturer in Policing & Investigations, and his colleague, our students put their investigative skills to the test - analysing evidence and following leads. We’re happy to report that the "missing girl" was found safe and sound! 👏 Future detectives and law professionals in the making! 🕵️♂️

It was lovely to meet Hassan Rizvi at Cross Rhythms City Radio last week. The new Principal and CEO of Stoke on Trent College spoke with me about his aspirations to 'take the college to the next level' and work alongside local employers to help train a local workforce fit for the future. I'll be playing more of the interview on my Breakfast Show tomorrow.

  • Award-Winning Animator and Director Visits Media Students! Level 2 Media students had the privilege of welcoming Barry JC Purves, an OSCAR and BAFTA-nominated animator and director, for an inspiring workshop. Barry, renowned for his contributions to both film and theatre, is also a dedicated writer, educator, and advocate for the art of animation. His internationally acclaimed work has received numerous awards, making this visit an invaluable learning experience. During the workshop, Barry guided students through the artistic principles of animation, sharing insights into movement and body dynamics in stop-motion. He also showcased some of his celebrated films, including In Plume, Next, and Tchaikovsky, the latter exploring the life and work of the famous composer. Students engaged in discussions on animation techniques, styles, and the evolution of Barry’s work, gaining a deeper appreciation for the craft. This visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn from a master of the industry, who brings over 45 years of expertise. It formed part of our celebration of Animation Month, which will continue with guest speakers including Daryl Marsh (Animation Award Leader at University of Staffordshire), Michael Therme (armature creator for Animation Toolkit Ltd), and the world-renowned puppet creators, Mackinnon and Saunders.
