The winner of the SAPCA Award 2025 for Large Project of the Year was the brilliant “Cricket Shield” facility at Bradford Park Avenue Cricket Club – a joint project between two SAPCA members, total-play Ltd and Fordingbridge. The facility features two 40mx20m covered domes with a state-of-the-art lighting system, elite cricket surface and a retractable netting system, allowing for training and matchplay. The 10-lane indoor facility enables play all year round and in any weather. It allows the club and other organisations to increase usage levels of a typical outdoor non-turf facility without the prohibitive costs of a permanent building. The venue features: • England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)-approved playing surface designed to simulate the performance of a natural pitch. • A bespoke lighting system that meets the standards stated by the ECB. • Safety of a ball-stop netting system designed to meet ECB guidance notes. JHP Electrical Services & Sports Lighting Specialists Projects Co-ordinator, Teddy Edwards, was named finalist for the 2025 SAPCA Young Person of the Year award. Edwards joined JHP Electrical, a SAPCA member, in January 2022 aged 22 years. With no previous experience in the electrical and lighting industry, Edwards faced a steep learning curve in learning processes, working systems and CRM. Completing an ILP Lighting course accelerated his thirst and passion for the sports lighting side of the JHP business. Since joining the company, Edwards has become highly experienced in lighting design and understands the needs of sports projects. His development also means that his role has grown and he now produces all quotations in the sports sector and takes a leading role in the project coordination of all sports projects. An innovative, retractable sports play lighting tower – created in partnership by SAPCA members Carbon8Lighting and JB Corrie – was the finalist in the Product of the Year category at this year’s SAPCA Awards. The tower combines a uniquely designed light head that maximises uniform light coverage of a sports play area from the seven-meter raised column height, while keeping light spillage to a minimum. As well as minimising energy consumption, the neat light footprint will keep neighbours happy. The column is a bespoke design that has been created by Carbon8Lighting, using an electric motor-powered cable that sits inside the column to extend and retract. This design protects the raising/lowering mechanism from the weather, reducing the need for maintenance. Watch the video, or click here https://lnkd.in/e9xENmCs , to find out more! Among the SAPCA Awards 2025 winners was the amazing Rekortan Gel GT by Polytan GmbH, which won the Product of the Year category. The innovative Rekortan Gel GT is a non-porous athletics track surface made using renewable raw materials. Certified by World Athletics for high-performance athletics at the competitive level, the gel-based PU technology provides optimal, stable shock absorption, enabling high acceleration, even at extreme temperatures. Thanks to the gel properties of the material, which is added in-situ, any irregularities are levelled out during installation, resulting in a completely level running track surface. The tested covering layer, which consists of a self-levelling PU coating interspersed with EPDM granules, guarantees high spike resistance and excellent colour stability. Green Technology and high performance are no longer mutually exclusive. The first full track installation in the UK using the new product was at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth. Covering a 7-lane, 400m track, the innovative surface was made of 60% renewable materials.
