Monday motivation!
I was at the mall Saturday when I ran into an old employee I used to manage. We reminisced on old times, shared a few laughs, and as we parted ways she said: “Thanks again for what you did for me when my Mother passed away. I’ll never forget that.” This was back in my retail days. We decided to pay her for 3 weeks even though she didn’t have any Vacation or PTO left. She and her mother were super close, and she was a fantastic employee. It just seemed like the right thing to do and honestly I didnt think much of it. Obviously she did. Which brings me to the point. Business is hard and challenging and crazy and fun. It can be horrible. It can be awesome. It can also be inconvenient. What helps more than anything is having a boss that is a reasonable freaking human being. We’re all gonna die and when you’re on your deathbed you won’t remember that stupid account you got or that month you grossed $500k. You will remember the faces, the relationships you made, and the way you treated people. Don’t take all this too seriously. Yes, have ambition. Achieve. Work hard and try to hit all those crazy goals. It inspires! But also BE KIND, find perspective, and put yourself in others shoes. You may not realize how much it means to others until way down the line. Just remember our job is not just to deliver results but also to spread love and make this world a better place - THIS is what people remember. 😘
