It's National Science Week! We know how important languages are on a personal, professional and societal level. But what about combining languages with STEM subjects? Well, it turns out this is a popular choice at school, and a wise choice when looking towards the future. According to a recent report on subject choices in England, students studying a language often combine this with a STEM subject. For students studying French, Spanish, and German in 2021/22, the most popular choices were Maths, Biology or Chemistry*. The Association for Language Learning has raised concerns about the UK’s ability to produce enough qualified linguists for the country’s needs**, and traditional European languages of French, Spanish and German are needed across all job sectors in the UK.*** So why not consider strengthening your employability and adding a language to your skillset? #LanguageSkills #LanguageLearning #NationalScienceWeek --- * Subject choice trends in post-16 education (British Academy, 2024) ** The Association for Language Learning commenting on the recent A-level results (September 2024) *** Current language jobs needed in the job market by Begon Rodriguez De Cespedes, (2023)

Boost French Fluency&confidence with engaging online lessons, using 4️⃣0️⃣ years proven La Jolie Ronde children's method| 1️⃣5️⃣ year Language for fun adults' approach☆15 yrs Award-winning French native devoted teacher♡
I feel so grateful to be recognised for doing what I love—seeing my young learners bringing French to life with creativity and confidence! ✨ I’m absolutely delighted to have been featured in SCILT’s Winter 2024 Newsletter for my European Day of Languages celebration with my online pupils! 🏆 This recognition means so much to me because it highlights what I love most about teaching—helping children express themselves in French with enthusiasm and imagination. For this event, I challenged my young learners to describe their favourite soft toy in French, and their creativity was truly inspiring. 🙏🌟😍 A huge thank you to SCILT for this mention and to my amazing pupils and their families for embracing the joy of language learning with me. 💛 I’m also proud of Izzie Hogg, another passionate La Jolie Ronde - French and Spanish for Children whose enthusiasm for French shines through her fantastic French Club extravaganza in Aberdeen! 🏴🎶📚 #LanguageLearning #FrenchForChildren #OnlineEducation #SCILT #Gratitude #EuropeanDayOfLanguages #LoveTeaching #onlinefrench

📣BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 SCILT is delighted to announce it will be building a pathway to sustainability through languages and art in a new project, supported by @ahrcpress. This initiative will focus on multilingualism and encourage communities to tap into and share their knowledge of languages, including home languages other than English. The project will focus on developing creative learning approaches, resources, and professional development opportunities for teachers, enabling all pupils to contribute fully to their communities. As part of the project, pupils will create art, under the guidance of local artists, exploring new approaches to learning about sustainability and to using resources sustainably. SCILT looks forward to working with @UniversityofStrathclyde, @UofGSoE, and primary schools: Thornwood Primary in Glasgow, Cradlehall Primary in Inverness and Bowhouse Primary in Falkirk.
