Building collaboration 🤝 Earlier this week Head of Dev Jordan headed across the city to meet our friends NUS Scotland. Their enthusiasm for all things students was inspiring and great to hear about their ongoing campaign work. With lots of linkages into our own work on cost of student sport, sporting cultures and giving students opportunities to engage and develop there is plenty of potential for collaboration in our futures! Meet Lucy 🏳️🌈 We're kicking off #LGBTQHistoryMonth by introducing Lucy: a UHI Perth student for whom sport has played a vital part in her identity since coming out. Facing challenges from old friend groups, it was her hockey teammates who allowed Lucy to just be herself. Now, she's a proud member of the Perth Parrots inclusive floorball team, and recently took up shinty with her college! That's a wrap on SS Games 🫡 Anyone wondering what value student sport brings would have had to take just one look at any of our six Championship events this weekend to see what these competitions mean to the students. Competitiveness and inclusivity combined for a thrilling weekend of activities, with plenty of smiles all round. None of this is possible without the monumental shift put in by our staff, volunteers and officials who put everything into this weekend. Three days to go ⏰ The biggest weekend in Scottish Student Sport is nearly upon us as six championship events take centre-stage across the country. Athletics, Aquatics, Basketball (3x3 & Wheelchair), Karate, Table Tennis and Trampoline will all feature with around 1000 individuals taking part. All eyes on Judo 🥋 Our mammoth few weeks of competitions kick off tomorrow with the SS Judo Championships, hosted by University of St Andrews! Featuring over 100 competitors from across Scotland, the event is our largest martial art competition as is accompanied by a training day for athletes on the Sunday, led by former SS Judo Chair Caroline Brayson. Due to Storm Éowyn we have released an updated timetable, taking account of the event set up now taking place tomorrow morning. SSS Silly Season Ready? It's all go as we prepare to run an incredible 1️⃣9️⃣ events over the next 2 weeks. Truly, we'd never be able to run these events if it wasn't for the remarkable group of volunteers we have supporting us across all 35 sports. Whether they are a student building events experience, or a graduate looking to give something back, these volunteers are the true lifeblood of SSS. As we enter one of the busiest periods of the year, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone helping to make student sport happen over the next few weeks. We couldn't do it without you!
