Yesterday members of the Shanly Group paid a visit to Desborough Bowling Club in Maidenhead, a purpose built, state of the art facility with 8 indoor rinks, 6 outdoor rinks and a clubhouse. The bowling club moved to their new home in 2019 following Shanly Homes securing planning permission for the facility in 2017 and subsequently building the premises. This enabled the club to move from their dilapidated site in Maidenhead town centre, which over the years had become unfit for purpose and offered very little parking. The move has ensured the economic future of the club, and five years after opening it looks just as good as the day it launched. Last weekend was a busy one for the Thames Valley sales team who launched the second phase of Little Green, our popular development in Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire. Phase one delivered a total of 62 new homes whilst the smaller second phase is delivering the final 31 units – a mix of 25 private and 6 affordable houses. The launch was really busy, and we were delighted to reserve the first two homes in this phase. At the same time over in Berkshire, our Magna Gardens development in Purley-on-Thames was hosting an open morning for our new residents, and prospective purchasers, complete with coffee and pastries from our favourite coffee van, Copper Penny. Great to see this boutique development coming to life and a new community forming. In Maidenhead, our flagship development, Waterside Quarter, was the main sponsor of the Maidenhead Waterways Fun Day – a community event centred around the rejuvenated waterways with live music, stands, boat rides, and other water-based activities. We love to get the Shanly Group team together - fun, collaboration, and down time with colleagues is important for promoting a cohesive working environment. Last Friday afternoon we celebrated the end of summer with a delicious barbeque and giant outdoor games. After the miserable weather earlier in the week, we were very lucky to have a sunny afternoon – the perfect start to the weekend. We would thoroughly recommend Ruffled Truffle Catering who did a fantastic job.

Formerly a dilapidated builder’s merchants, the development has completely elevated the street scene and transformed the area. One of the learnings the business took away from Mental Health Week was that the team benefited from time outdoors. Over the last few months, we have been looking for ways to facilitate this. Last week saw the launch of our first initiative – members of Shanly Homes and our sister company, Sorbon Estates went to Maidenhead and Marlow where they enjoyed a delicious breakfast (in one of our tenant’s establishments) followed by a litter pick around the area. There were several benefits: 1) we were actively contributing to the communities in which we develop and invest; 2) we were supporting our commercial tenants; 3) the team were outdoors, exercising, and spending time with colleagues away from their desks. It’s a simple yet really effective exercise, and we will definitely be making it a regular event.
