During Black History Month, it’s important to shine a light on these statistics: Only 36% of Black girls in England are reaching recommended activity levels, compared to 48% of white girls, according to Sport England. Even more concerning, the percentage of Black girls who say they enjoy sports and physical activity has dropped from 50% to 39% in the past five years. This highlights the urgent need for change and greater support to help Black girls stay active and engaged. She Beasts are about to launch a new youth initiative. Would this benefit your service users? Reach out directly today. Sadie Jones Terri Walsh Clare Cohring MSc Tracey Secker

What could be more important than the Rule of Law? I am immensely grateful to the University of Birmingham for the opportunity to showcase the incredible work being done in partnership with Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Together, we’re supporting the Rule of Law in Ukraine by developing a legal dictionary for lawyers, law students, and the public. This project has brought together thirty-five law students and alumni from Birmingham Law School, alongside faculty and law students from Lviv. I was proud to witness the amazing support extended not only to our own justice system but also to Ukraine’s. Today is Thursday, 10th October, also known as World Mental Health Day. Did you know that 1 in 5 women experience a mental health disorder? Over a quarter (26%) of young women aged 16-24 report having a common mental health problem in any given week, compared to 17% of adults overall. And this number is rising. Research shows that 53% of women with mental health issues have also experienced abuse. The link between trauma, violence, and mental health, including PTSD, is undeniable. With 1.6 million women in England and Wales experiencing domestic abuse in 2021 alone, we can see how serious this issue is. Why does this matter to me? Because I am the statistic. I’m the girl with Autism, EUPD, and complex PTSD. My first suicide attempt was at just 16. But in the 10+ years since then, I’ve lived a lot of life. I’m a mother (and a damn good one). My work has connected me with hundreds of incredible people. And just a few years ago, I couldn’t imagine doing anything without someone holding my hand. Has it been easy? Absolutely not. I’ve made mistakes, and life’s been messy. I still don’t have it all figured out. Who really does? And I’ve done things my own way, often backwards! But what I do have is a community I can lean on, filled with love and support. I’m here for you too. If you need to talk, you can always book a call with She Beasts—we’re here to listen and support you in whatever way you need. Because you are so worthy of this life. Let’s keep breaking the stigma around mental health, today and every day. 💛 Sadie Jones SheBeasts C.I.C
