We had the pleasure of attending the Vietfish International Seafood Exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City and joined Optimar team for a field visit to the Mekong Delta at the end of August! 🌊✨ Our Corporate Engagement & Southeast Asia Coordinator, Lien-Huong Trinh, had the opportunity to engage with key industry stakeholders and discuss how shrimp welfare can be integrated into sustainable practices 🦐 It was an honour to connect with like-minded individuals and organisations dedicated to advancing the seafood industry. We would like to thank Innovation Norway and the Norwegian Embassy in Vietnam for their great efforts in organising and facilitating our visit. We look forward to further collaborations that promote high welfare standards across Vietnam and beyond! 🚀🌏

🌟 We’re thrilled to share that Sainsbury's has published a robust commitment to fish and shellfish welfare! We’ve had the privilege of supporting their journey towards higher welfare by granting stunners to some of their shrimp suppliers in Latin America and Vietnam, playing a key role in their transition to humane slaughter practices. Now, in collaboration with us and Stirling University, they’re trialling electrical stunning with their fresh and frozen shrimp farmers, aiming for full implementation by end of 2026 🦐 Sainsbury's commitment also covers other important practices aimed at improving aquatic animal welfare. These include avoiding long-duration live transportation, not selling live crustaceans, and ensuring all animals are free from routine mutilations, like eyestalk ablation. We’re excited to witness Sainsbury's strong dedication to improving aquatic animal welfare and are honoured to contribute to this highly important initiative. This progress marks a significant shift within the industry, setting a high standard for the treatment of aquatic animals 🚀

🌟 We are delighted to announce that Tesco has published its Farmed Decapod Crustacean Welfare Policy! We have had the honour of closely collaborating with Tesco to improve shrimp welfare within their supply chain, facilitating their transition to humane slaughter practices 🦐 This significant update highlights Tesco’s dedication to the humane treatment of decapod crustaceans, marking an important step forward in the industry. Notably, Tesco has pledged that by 2026, 100% of farmed P. Vannamei will be electrically stunned. They also plan to phase out eyestalk ablation from their supply chain by 2027. Additionally, they will no longer sell live decapod crustaceans in stores or online, further underscoring their dedication to improving crustacean welfare. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Tesco for their dedication to improving crustacean welfare and for allowing us to be part of this important initiative. This progress reflects a growing focus within the industry on prioritising and addressing the welfare of decapod crustaceans 🚀
