Chickens bred to grow abnormally large unnaturally fast suffer tremendously. Many collapse, become unable to reach food or water, and suffer agonizing deaths as a result. 😢 Muscle damage, respiratory problems, bone infections, lameness, heart disease, organ failure, and intestinal problems are also common. Take action: Whole Foods promised to eliminate these cruel breeding practices from its chicken supply chain by 2024. Urge Whole Foods to share clear progress and a plan for banning ultrafast-growing breeds from its supply chain. Sign the petition at https://lnkd.in/gvG7jU_C. Let's build a more sustainable world together by ending the exploitation of animals for food.
About us
Mercy For Animals believes that a humane society is possible. We are committed to reducing the greatest amount of suffering for the largest number of animals. Our efforts focus on protecting farmed animals—the most abused and exploited animals on the planet—and utilize a broad range of strategic approaches that seek to expose cruelty, prosecute abusers, and inspire consumers to make compassionate food choices. We are on the frontlines fighting to protect farmed animals. From factory farms to corporate boardrooms, courts of justice to courts of public opinion, MFA is there to speak up against cruelty, and for compassion.

The meat industry selectively breeds chickens to grow unnaturally large and abnormally fast to produce as much meat as possible in the least time. These birds grow so big they often collapse and can suffer from muscle disorders, heart disease, and organ failure. 😢 Take action! 🚨Whole Foods pledged to stop sourcing meat from ultra-fast growing chickens by 2024, and it’s time for the company to follow through! Demand that Whole Foods publish a plan for keeping its promise: https://lnkd.in/gvG7jU_C

Big news! Representative Escobar (D-TX) just introduced the Pigs and Public Health Act (PPHA) in the House of Representatives. This groundbreaking bill includes provisions to remove downed pigs from the food system and prohibit cruel treatment of downed pigs in farms, during transport, and at slaughter. Urge your representatives to support the PPHA to help get protections for downed pigs into the 2023 Farm Bill. Appalling! ⚠️ Birds just weeks old shouldn’t suffer immobility, organ failure and heart attacks. Whole Foods promised to stop sourcing chickens bred to suffer by 2024. It’s time the company followed through. Take action now! https://lnkd.in/gvG7jU_C

Happy Cow Appreciation Day! 🐮🥰 We first shared Maggie's heartwarming story back in 2018 after The Sweet Farm rescued her from a beef ranch. Today, she continues to thrive at the sanctuary, hanging out with her cow BFF Argyle, greeting visitors, and acting as an ambassador for other cows who remain trapped at meat, dairy, or veal farms. Because of her foot injury, Maggie has to travel to Cornell University for specialized hoof trims, but has otherwise seemingly recovered from the trauma she endured as a small calf. 🙌 All cows deserve a happy ending. Show love for them today by choosing plant-based foods!

Studies show that the majority of Americans think the animals they eat should be raised “humanely." Meat companies are likely well aware of this and will stop at nothing to trick well-meaning consumers into buying their products labeled as “humane meat.” This form of misleading marketing is often referred to as “humane washing.” Click the link below to learn what "humane meat" labels really mean. https://lnkd.in/gGDhD7FB

In July, Americans celebrate their independence. We reflect on the freedoms we often take for granted. One such freedom is our ability to choose what we eat. But in today’s food system, where big conglomerates control production of most food on our shelves, true freedom of choice is becoming an illusion. The three largest meatpacking firms, JBS of Brazil, Tyson Foods of the United States, and WH Group of China, control a whopping 63% of pork packing, 46% of beef packing, and 38% of poultry. These companies own dozens of brand names all over the world, from Pilgrim’s Pride and Smithfield to Jimmy Dean and more. By controlling 40% or more of sales, they have become an oligarchy, or a shared monopoly. Different logos and food brands make consumers feel like they have a choice, but in reality, a majority of American dollars go to the same few megacorporations. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gUqasQQK
