    SIETAR UK and SIETAR Switzerland are pleased to announce that they will be hosting an online session for interculturalists working with refugees, migrants and their volunteers. Come along to learn how the DIE or 3R or similar popular reflective training tools for intercultural competence can be refined and improved, ensuring better learning, rapport and understanding. Prof Helen Spencer-Oatey will lead an online session all about her new TRIPS Toolkit that can help keen SIETARians in their work with refugees, migrants, and their volunteers. Then we will open the floor for reflections and discussions among attendees with the goal to understand the toolkit’s applicability when working with migrants, refugees or volunteers who support refugees/migrants.     🌍 Join Us for the SIETAR Europa Workshop on Inclusive Communication! This workshop is organized in collaboration with SIETAR France and SIETAR Polska, featuring Dr. Edwin Hoffman on the critical topic of Inclusive Communication and the #TOPOI-model. Date: Wednesday, October 16, 2024 Time: 17:30 - 19:45 CEST Topic: Inclusive Communication and the TOPOI-model: Beyond Intercultural Communication and Competence - ‘Cultures don’t meet, people do.’ Dr. Hoffman will explore key questions surrounding intercultural communication and competence. He will challenge traditional theories that reduce people to schematic cultural stereotypes and offer the TOPOI-model as a tool for focusing on the encounter between unique individuals embedded in diverse social-cultural contexts.     🔔 Reminder for next Tuesday's online event hosed by SIETAR UK 🔔 Patrick L. Schmidt will be leading a talk on "Deconstructing Unconscious Biases — Neuropsychological Insights into how we construct our reality”. He will talk about how our unconscious biases influence our everyday lives and our intercultural relationships. Based on his new book "Your Unconscious Biases", he will draw your attention to our biases by using great works of art that demonstrate how our memories, experiences and memories, especially those from early childhood, largely dictate our behaviour. This talk is unique in the sense that it helps us see our unconscious biases by emphasizing the artistic visual aspect. 📆 Tuesday, 1 October 18.00 – 19.00 UK time. Patrick served as president of SIETAR Europa (2010 - 2011) as well as editor-in-chief of the SIETAR Europa Journal (2009 - 2021) and has been active in the intercultural field for over 30 years, working as a facilitator, lecturer and author. Schmidt, a former President of SIETAR Europa and former Editor-in-chief of the SIETAR Europa Journal, will be giving a talk for SIETAR UK members and a wider audience on Tuesday, 1 October 18.00 – 19.00 UK time. Patrick will talk about how our unconscious biases influence our everyday lives and our intercultural relationships. Based on his new book "Your Unconscious Biases", he will draw your attention to our biases by using great works of art that demonstrate how our memories, experiences and memories, especially those from early childhood, largely dictate our behaviour. This talk is unique in the sense that it helps us see our unconscious biases by emphasizing the artistic visual aspect. Patrick Schmidt has been active in the intercultural field for over 30 years, working as a facilitator, lecturer and author. American by birth and education, he left the U.S. soon after finishing his studies and spent the next three decades living and working in France, Germany, Austria, Canada and Malaysia. His extensive work with the German automobile industry led to his first book "Understanding American and German Business Cultures". His second book, "In Search of Intercultural Understanding", is a practical guide to living and working across cultures. "Dancing to a Different Tune", his third book, is a collection of interviews, essays and commentaries on the intercultural experience. He served as president of SIETAR Europa (2010 - 2011) as well as editor-in-chief of the SIETAR Europa Journal (2009 - 2021). He now lives in Strasbourg, France. The talk is free to attend.
