Today we're announcing the next phase of Project Kingfisher, our drone water monitoring trials with NWG (Northumbrian Water Group), Makutu, and RS Hydro. Named for the way our aircraft hover and dip in and out of the water like a Kingfisher to collect water samples, Project Kingfisher aims demonstrate how drones can be used to monitor the health of UK waters. We're deploying the all-electric Speedbird Aero DLV-2, which has been equipped with a variety of sensors which are lowered into sample locations by winch. From there, we're able to test water quality and provide real time data to Northumbrian Water. Cheska P. Rojas, Project Kingfisher lead at Skyports Drone Services, said: “Water quality monitoring is a really compelling drone inspection use case, which we’re excited to be developing through Project Kingfisher. The latest phase of trials build on learnings gathered earlier in the year and is an important step towards scaling these services and eventually rolling them out in other parts of the UK." Congratulations to our aircraft partner Pyka on securing $40M in its Series B funding round. We look forward to seeing how this significant injection of capital will support the development and commercialisation of Pyka's world class Pelican Cargo and Pelican Spray aircraft. We've been flying Pelican Cargo, the world's first large-scale autonomous electric cargo aircraft, capable of heavy-payload, long-range operations, since early 2023, and we're conducting ongoing trials and test flights to demonstrate how this aircraft can support the transport of cargo for logistics, humanitarian and marine use cases. #droneservices #heavylift #drones #UAV

We had the pleasure of hosting the Singapore Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) at our Asia-Pacific HQ in Singapore for an insightful session with our remote drone pilots. This visit, where we showcased our drone delivery and inspection use cases across Singapore and globally was organised as part of TSIB's outreach program to the UAS community in Singapore to create awareness on how thorough investigations can drive safety improvements in our industry. Learnings from live operations and sharing best practices amongst the drone community supports our efforts to continuously enhance safety standards and create a safer operational environment for all. A big thank you again to the TSIB team for dropping by! #drones #safety #UAS #APAC #droneservices

Our work in Scotland continues! Last week, Project CAELUS, part of the UK Research and Innovation Future Flight Challenge, successfully completed a series of drone trials in collaboration with NHS Lothian and NHS Borders. Our team conducted multiple flights carrying laboratory specimens between Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and Borders General Hospital in Melrose. These flight trials aim to demonstrate how drone technology can enhance clinical decision-making by speeding up the transportation of critical samples. Throughout the trial phase the consortium also tested how NHS staff might interact with the drones, both physically and digitally, in the future to support scale-up of services. #droneservices #medicallogistics #drones

Just over a year since first launching our drone distribution flights in the Orkney Isles, today we're announcing an extension to the project. Transportation of Royal Mail parcels and packages is set to continue into 2026 with routine drone deliveries. As the first UK commercial drone delivery project to be implemented on a regular basis, we're excited to continue this operation over the next two years to improve connectivity and access to critical public services in some of the most remote parts of the country. Alex Brown, Director, Skyports Drone Services, said: “Our Orkney flights with Royal Mail demonstrate the viability of long-term drone operations and highlight the role that new aviation technologies can play in supporting essential public services... To secure the strong growth trajectory we believe drones can achieve, we’re working hard to support the development of an enabling ecosystem for drone services." Councillor Kristopher Leask, Orkney Islands Councillor (Kirkwall West and Orphir) and Chair of the Development and Infrastructure Committee, said: “I'm delighted to see the commitment to Orkney shown in the extension of drone deliveries, and I look forward to seeing how Skyports Drone Services and Royal Mail can further work with communities to improve the services the depend on." A huge thank you to each and every project partner! Orkney Islands Council | Orkney Harbours | Loganair Limited | Chris Paxton

Today in Singapore, as part of the annual Safety @ Sea Week, we conducted a ferry rescue exercise (FEREX) in collaboration with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The exercise simulated a collision between two vessels, showcasing the crucial role of highly-automated drone operations in enhancing maritime emergency responses. We deployed two drones: one provided continuous aerial surveillance, while the other delivered a life buoy to a simulated person overboard. These demonstrations in the world's second largest port highlight how our electric drone operations can support emergency responses in the maritime sector. Reach out for more! 🛳 ⚓ #drones #dronesservices #maritime #UAS
