A look at life on the Sloane Stanley Estate. Investing in Chelsea since 1717.
About us
In 1717, William Sloane, elder brother of Sir Hans Sloane, purchased 47 acres in Chelsea and then in 1721 purchased an additional 18 acres. In modern terms the main block of land was between Old Church Street, Fulham Road, Limerston Street and the King’s Road along with two additional blocks, the first running down to the Thames defined by Old Church Street and Paultons Square and the other bounded by Limerston Street, Gertrude Street,Langton Street and the King’s Road. Originally the Estate was mostly market gardens and stayed as such until the 19th century when the majority of the Estate was redeveloped. In 1947 compulsory purchases reduced the Sloane Stanley Estate from 65 acres to 47 acres and by 1962 additional sales left the Estate with 18 acres. Today the Estate retains substantial holdings of residential and commercial properties concentrated on the King’s Road and Fulham Road all still under the same family ownership Traces of the ownership of the Estate can still be seen especially in names such as Paultons. Hobury and Shalcomb as well as past activities such as Mulberry which reflects an effort at silk farming in the area.

Last week, we hosted our International Women’s Day breakfast, bringing together several female business leaders from across the Sloane Stanley Estate. It was an open forum to celebrate achievements, both personally and entrepreneurially, as well as discussing the challenges that women can often face within a range of sectors and how we all have a part to play in bridging the gap. It was a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge and advice, as well as reflect on the highs and lows of running a business and why it is so important to make it accessible to future generations of women whilst supporting one another. Thank you to those who attended and shared their stories. We look forward to the next. We had a wonderful evening earlier this month hosting our annual Chelsea Art Society VIP Sloane Medal Awards. We are proud to sponsor this exhibition and support all the incredible talent from local artists in Chelsea. This year the awards were presented by Sophie Winkleman who was so impressed with the standard of art, that she had to choose two winners. Congratulations to this year's joint winners, Louise Dingle for her painting Carlyle Square, Late Afternoon Light, and Michael Alford for his painting The Colbert, Conversation Piece 1. Joint runners-up were Aleksandras Aleksejevas for his sculptor Warrior, and Kay Singla for her sculpture My Love. Thank you to everyone for joining us again this year. #ChelseaArtSociety #Awards #Chelsea #LocalArtists #Community

Thank you very much to Ben McCormack at The London Standard for featuring Sloane Stanley in the latest article on how Chelsea got cool again, referencing the abundance of fantastic retail and F&B on offer across SW3. Chelsea has always been cool, but it is currently finding favour with new consumers. Understanding the lifestyles of the residents and visitors pays dividends in our approach, with Chelsea a place that really champions the community. The combination of balancing constant change with a sense of familiarity is what makes our corner of the King's Road so successful, contributing to the entire area's appeal. Over the last few months, we have seen some fantastic deals come to fruition across the Estate. We are delighted to welcome George Bukhov-Weinstein and Ilya Demichev's new gastronomic concept, Fantomas, to King’s Road, headed up by chef Chris Denney. Boasting Modern European cuisine, Fantomas will open its doors later this summer. New York-style pizzeria concept Alley Cats Pizza is heading to King's Road in August, choosing Chelsea for its second-ever site, bringing its range of 14-inch pizzas to the Sloane Stanley neighborhood. We are also celebrating the opening of Dez Amore's first-ever restaurant space on Fulham Road, further highlighting the appeal of Chelsea and our role in championing independent growth. These new F&B concepts will enhance our Estate to new heights, and we look forward to welcoming them over the next few months. For the 5th year, Sloane Stanley is collaborating with KCAW to create an exhibition curated by Jack Trodd that spans selected shop front windows along the iconic King's Road. Participating stores, salons, restaurants and cafes will display ground-breaking artworks by London's most exciting emerging artists throughout Art Week and beyond. For this year's edition, the CHANGING LANDSCAPES theme is reflected in these 'ones-to-watch' artists' unique styles, changing perceptions on what's possible, utilising classical art movements and methods in totally new ways, whilst spotlighting the positively changing commercial landscape that is seeing more businesses championing young artists. As seen in this project, retail spaces become pop-up contemporary art galleries, artists have the chance to reach new audiences and show their work in unique locations, whilst the public is invited to discover up-and-coming artists and enjoy the High Street enriched with creativity." We are delighted to share photos from this year's exhibition.
