Our CEO, Roland Carter recently took a trip to our John Crane site in Shannon, Ireland, to celebrate its 50th anniversary with colleagues. During his visit, Roland toured the site, listened to colleagues sharing memories (and cake!), and presented the team with a plaque commemorating the significant anniversary. Throughout the years, the team have built a strong track record delivering for our customers worldwide and we are looking forward to seeing what the next 50 years brings! Roland also met with the Detection Service team at Shannon airport, seeing the excellent CTiX installation and meeting with Shannon security personnel. #ProudToBeSmiths

Across our sites, we encourage colleagues to think sustainably, whether that’s coming up with innovations at work or taking the time to preserve our planet away from the lab. Our John Crane team in Vallejo, Mexico and their annual reforestation programme is a fantastic example of this. Joining forces with their families and friends, colleagues plant trees and clear rubbish in the local area. Since 2016, they’ve planted 1,011 trees and 45 other plants at the Vallejo site and across three protected areas critical to the local ecosystem. As well as functioning as a key team-building tool, this initiative has produced measurable environmental benefits, including 10,995kg of CO2 captured each year, enhanced air quality, reduced soil erosion, decreased noise pollution and an expanded habitat for local wildlife. Did you know that Jupiter has 95 moons – and that one of them, Europa, could host the conditions to support life? This intriguing prospect led Arthur C. Clark to feature Europa in his famous book ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. It has also led NASA to launch its latest mission to space, sending the Europa Clipper craft on an exploratory mission. The craft launched yesterday and we are proud that our Smiths Interconnect team provided key connectivity components to the mission through the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, which produced the spacecraft on behalf of NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This is one of the many reasons why we are #ProudToBeSmiths Read more below: https://lnkd.in/et-G_FhE

To mark #WorldMentalHealthDay we gathered colleagues together for an interactive session focused on providing practical tips around self-care, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and wellbeing. The webinar was part of a number of initiatives taking place across our sites including team social events, community activities and group sessions. This year’s theme focuses on the need to prioritise mental health in the workplace, something we passionately agree with. Our internal THRIVE network provides a platform to support physical, emotional, intellectual and financial well-being through activities including employee assistance programmes, training, site activities and special events. Colleagues from our London HQ recently spent some time giving back to the local community, volunteering with the Guy & St Thomas’ Charity at the Evelina Children’s Hospital. Taking advantage of their volunteering leave, Antine Milia and Sareeka Kashyap spent time assisting the hospital’s catering staff. Well done both! #ProudToBeSmiths
