About us

The SMPTE UK Section is a vibrant and inclusive group of members from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, all of whom work with the technology of moving pictures, associated sound and metadata – creatively, practically and innovatively in any format, and on any platform. This group, unique in the UK, brings together technical professionals at all levels of experience and seniority to share ideas and network. We have many early careers members, and actively encourage students, apprentices, and graduates to network and learn through SMPTE.

On 30th Jan, SMPTE United Kingdom Section presented their annual Young Innovators event, hosted at Sky Studios in London. The event included a hands-on tour for 50 Media Technology focused students of Sky’s cutting edge live facilities as well as science demos of HDR display tech by Sky’s product development team. The evening event for SMPTE UK section was open to all and included fantastic presentations from early-career professionals, Irene Muñoz-López, Amy Woods and Frank Plowman. This was followed by a fireside chat about careers hosted by Chloe Schuil-Brewer and featuring Adrienne Deganutti, Alfie Potter, Ben Foreman and Alfie Mitchell. This event showcased the amazing talent entering our industry and gave them the floor to talk about their work, development, and careers. This is just one example of the many ways in which we have students and early career professionals involved in all areas of SMPTE from Standards to Education and local section meetings. Events like this are why it’s so important to support SMPTE, become a member, and take advantage of this incredible community of talent. If you’re one of those companies or recruiters seeking to access the brightest and best engineers, creative technologists and innovative minds – I strongly urge you to join SMPTE as a corporate member https://lnkd.in/eR5Q97HQ and help us develop and deliver the next generation of technical talent to the industry. Join us and get involved! Massive thanks to Carys Hughes, Polly Hickling, John Ellerton, Scott Kerr, Sarah Adams, David Adams, Emily Bergun, Hollie Keen, Sophie Humphrey and a whole team at Sky involved in organising and delivering the event – you represented SMPTE in the most awesome way and set the bar for supporting our future talent! Also – if you’re in the UK, don’t miss the Northern edition of SMPTE United Kingdom Section Young innovators at Leeds Uni on 25 March Photo credit: Ryan Hanan
