    Did you know, I sold door-to-door in America for two summers during university? Most people thought I was crazy (my parents included!) But, looking back, here's what's really crazy... ... I now see that those scorching-hot, rejection-filled days taught me things that are key to being effective at social selling on LinkedIn today. The parallels are striking: ➡️ Door-to-door sellers who randomly knocked on every house without doing their research failed miserably. Social media "spray and pray" approaches get the same results. ➡️ The best sellers identified where their ideal customers lived and focused their efforts accordingly. On social, you need to be equally strategic about who you're trying to reach and how you invest your time. ➡️ Conversations reveal problems you can solve. Delivering pitches does not. The same applies to your DMs and comments here. Focus on starting conversations. ➡️ Planning ahead multiplies your results (note to business owners: don't drop things in your marketing team's lap last-minute!!). ➡️ The sellers who tracked their numbers refined what was working for them. Your social strategy deserves the same attention to detail and a test-learn-test approach. I've had countless people tell me they don't understand why their brilliant content isn't generating business here. Usually, it's because they haven't acted on the fact that social selling success isn't about purely about content, algorithms and hashtags. It's about the same principles that have driven sales for centuries. (Just without the slammed doors!)

    I'm amazed how many B2B businesses still dismiss social media as "not being worthwhile for our type of business!" We've been digging into this recently, and the results are eye-opening. After speaking with nearly 200 B2B business owners, we discovered something pretty shocking: 81% aren't getting ANY tangible results from social media. But here's where it gets interesting... The other 19%? They're absolutely smashing it! We're talking firms getting leads pretty much on demand. Winning a significant proportion of all their business through LinkedIn. Crucially, these aren't massive corporations with unlimited marketing budgets. These are modest-sized B2B businesses investing reasonable time and resources into social media. The kind of investment most small businesses could replicate. So what separates the winners from all those frustrated by their lack of results?! Three critical pillars that almost everyone misses: ➡️ Growing the RIGHT audience (not just any audience) ➡️ Building genuine trust and credibility ➡️ Proactively converting that audience (not just posting and praying that the leads will start flowing) The businesses struggling with social media scored just 29% on that last pillar. No wonder they're not seeing results! And here's another shortcoming we were able to pinpoint: the feast and famine cycle. Companies invest in social media when business is slow, then abandon it the moment client work picks up. Whereas social media success requires consistency... ... and expertise. The "let's have our Office Manager spend a few hours on LinkedIn each week" approach simply doesn't cut it. What's appealing here for Founders and Partners is that with 81% of B2B businesses failing at social media, there's a massive competitive advantage waiting for those who get it right.     🎞️ This is for anyone who's been put off doing a LinkedIn Live because you don't know how to do it. I came across this quick walkthrough video from LinkedIn - showing how to connect your Zoom account to broadcast to your LinkedIn Live event. (Note: I don't think this works with free Zoom accounts, can anyone confirm?) Some good tips and pointers here on best practice. Hope this is a help - and have a nice weekend everyone!
