Did you know, I sold door-to-door in America for two summers during university? Most people thought I was crazy (my parents included!) But, looking back, here's what's really crazy... ... I now see that those scorching-hot, rejection-filled days taught me things that are key to being effective at social selling on LinkedIn today. The parallels are striking: ➡️ Door-to-door sellers who randomly knocked on every house without doing their research failed miserably. Social media "spray and pray" approaches get the same results. ➡️ The best sellers identified where their ideal customers lived and focused their efforts accordingly. On social, you need to be equally strategic about who you're trying to reach and how you invest your time. ➡️ Conversations reveal problems you can solve. Delivering pitches does not. The same applies to your DMs and comments here. Focus on starting conversations. ➡️ Planning ahead multiplies your results (note to business owners: don't drop things in your marketing team's lap last-minute!!). ➡️ The sellers who tracked their numbers refined what was working for them. Your social strategy deserves the same attention to detail and a test-learn-test approach. I've had countless people tell me they don't understand why their brilliant content isn't generating business here. Usually, it's because they haven't acted on the fact that social selling success isn't about purely about content, algorithms and hashtags. It's about the same principles that have driven sales for centuries. (Just without the slammed doors!)
