  • Wishing all our New Zealand colleagues and everyone else celebrating, a very happy Labour Day. Labour Day is a New Zealand public holiday commemorated each year on the fourth Monday in October, celebrating when the eight hour working day and the 48 hour working week became the law in New Zealand in 1899. This was later changed to 40 hours. The idea of an eight hour day was started in New Zealand by Samuel Parnell, a carpenter in Wellington. In 1840 Parnell refused to work for more than eight hours each day, and because there were not many people who had his carpentry skills in New Zealand at the time, his employers had to agree to him working those hours. • Society are delighted to be supporting Youth Focus North West (YFNW) in the search for their new Chair of the Board, and several Trustees. Youth Focus North West (YFNW) is a charity that exists to promote and represent youth work across the North West region. They provide opportunities for services working with young people to respond to and impact national government agendas. Striving to improve the quality and consistency of youth work across the region, they promote and support good practice and effective workforce development. Essentially, they empower young people so that they feel confident and motivated to make changes to the world around them. The Chair and Trustee roles are voluntary leadership positions that will place you right at the heart of a charity with major impact on the lives of young people across the North West. As a Trustee, you will help YFNW to shape and deliver the next stage of their growth as they look to build on the strong reputation built to date and increase their impact. We are seeking a Chair with a credible charity governance background and knowledge of the youth work sector. Prior non-executive experience is a pre-requisite, as they will be leading a reasonably new Board cohort. Candidates for both the Chair and Trustee positions should have some sort of direct personal or professional connection to youth work in the North West, a strong resonance with YFNW’s vision, and genuine ambition for what the charity can achieve. YFNW is being assisted in this appointment by the executive search firm Society. Applications should consist of a CV and covering letter. • Menopause Awareness Day 2024 highlights the theme Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT), highlighting its critical role in managing the physical and emotional symptoms associated with menopause and perimenopause. MHT can significantly enhance the well-being and productivity of women by alleviating symptoms such as hot flashes, mood fluctuations, and sleep disturbances. At Society, we are committed to prioritising the well-being of our employees, recognising that the right initiatives not only support individuals but also drive overall organisational success. When considering this within your workplace it is essential to ensure that employees experiencing menopause or perimenopause feel fully supported, understood, and empowered. A comprehensive policy should provide flexibility, such as adaptable work schedules, access to relevant healthcare resources, and training for managers and staff. By encouraging open communication and offering reasonable accommodations, organisations can reduce absenteeism, improve employee retention, and create a workplace culture rooted in empathy and inclusivity. • Some exciting leadership movements at Society!

Sometimes you are lucky to work with someone who is excellent at their craft, a generous ally and fantastic fun. That’s what James Lea is to me. We’ve worked together for 11 years and I’m delighted to announce his return to the UK as Society’s global Head of Head of Hospitality & Leisure and Managing Director of APAC and the Americas, a leadership role where he will drive growth in both the sector practice and two regional businesses that he has launched for Society. His direct portfolio will include hotels, private members clubs, estate management, property development and asset management companies as well as overseeing our APAC and NA operations. In our Asia Pacific region, James passes the baton to the wonderful collaborator that is Asher Lewis. Asher has hit the ground running as our new Managing Consultant, meeting our clients and new partners across the education, purpose-led business and nonprofit space. I’m excited to see what he and our excellent APAC team will achieve together. Welcome back James and welcome to the team Asher! https://lnkd.in/ep4AGCMF
