Exciting News, our New Northwest Hub is now open! The strategic location in Altrincham will serve as a base for up to 100 staff, housing several of our key business units. The brand-new facility has also enabled the creation of a new regional hub for Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Monitoring and Foundation Testing, as well as an ‘Innovations Laboratory’. The new hub follows the same high standards as our existing Midlands hub, SOCOTEC Central. features modern offices, EV charging, meeting rooms and warehousing. Being able to design the facility from the ground up has enabled us to create new UKAS-accredited laboratories centred on quality and efficiency. Our CEO Matthew Marriott said "I am delighted with the move, which underpins our commitment to providing world-class service and supporting the growth of our clients. This new hub will be a springboard for future expansion and innovation as we continue to shape the future of the industry." The geotechnical industry is embracing a digital revolution, and SOCOTEC GI is proud to be leading the way. Our teams are moving away from paper records and fully transitioning to real-time digital data capture, thanks to the Open Ground Data Collector, developed by Bentley Systems. For nearly two years, our engineers and drillers have been using this innovative tool to streamline the entire data collection process, from site to client. It's enhancing our work through superior accuracy, speed, and efficiency. With instant data transfer, we ensure quicker quality assurance and faster delivery to our clients. Designed to capture critical site data in real time, the tool seamlessly integrates with our workflows, facilitating better collaboration and communication between our teams. Compliance checks are also made safer and more efficient with dedicated profiles, ensuring every aspect is documented thoroughly. This digital shift not only improves accuracy and consistency but also sets a new standard in the geotechnical sector. Earlier this year, the British Drilling Association (BDA) introduced a brand-new Health, Safety and Environment guidance document titled: 'Safe Intrusive Activities on Land Potentially Impacted by Contaminated Land (ICE).' This important update replaces the previous guidance, 'Guidance for Safe Intrusive Activities on Contaminated or Potentially Contaminated Land,' which had been in place since 1992. Since the first publication, the guidance has evolved with the industry's focus on legislation and safety for ground investigation teams who may encounter potentially harmful substances on-site. One of the key developments has been the adoption of a site risk classification scheme, which helps identify the degree of risk posed by contaminants in soil or groundwater, safeguarding all personnel involved in site investigations. This latest revision is another step forward in ensuring the health and safety of everyone in our industry. James Dodgson, one of our dedicated experts, has recently written a piece for Facilities Management Journal (FMJ) focusing on a critical topic — the management of asbestos in UK buildings. In the article, James highlights the regulatory challenges the UK has faced in recent years, particularly in comparison to other European nations. EU countries have taken bold steps, like the Netherlands' phased removal of asbestos roofs and stricter occupational exposure limits across Europe — which are ten times lower than those in the UK. With The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) unchanged since 2012, James brings an important conversation to the table, advocating for better, safer practices to protect both workers and occupants across the UK. To read James' full article and explore his insights, check out the latest edition of FMJ Magazine: https://lnkd.in/et_aAG4U To find out more about what Asbestos Management Services we offer, head to our website: https://lnkd.in/eZFW2X9p #AsbestosManagement #FMJMagazine #BuildingSafety #RiskManagement #UKLegislation #Asbestos
