About us
Solace is the representative body for senior strategic managers working in the public sector. We are committed to public sector excellence. We provide our members with opportunities for personal and professional development and seek to influence the debate about the future of public services to ensure that policy and legislation reflect the experience and expertise of our members. Solace companies comprise a membership organisation, a commercial services arm and a charitable trust. Solace in Business (SiB), formerly Solace Enterprises Limited, is the commercial services arm of Solace, and is a well established and successful consultancy specialising in supporting the public sector. Solely owned by Solace, Solace in Business operates commercially on `not-for-profit` business principles, reinvesting any surplus income to fund public sector research, policy development and promoting the high level skills training needed to be a modern manager in public service. Although initially specialising in local government SiB have for a number of years worked right across the public sector providing resourcing, development and organisational consultancy to a wide range of organisations. Customers of SiB include local councils, health trusts, police, fire and rescue, housing voluntary sector organisations and private sector service providers. Our experience in local government is second to none and we have supported all types of councils across the UK.

Colleagues going through #LGR, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Jessica Mullinger if you need support or guidance.
Today we have published a Guide to Standing up an #LGR Implementation Team. http://bit.ly/4i7wXpv As government has received interim Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) proposals from all 21 invited areas, the next phase now begins, involving detailed assessment and development of more comprehensive plans. With a modest £7.6 million allocated to support LGR proposal development across all 21 areas, the careful allocation of resources and budget control will be crucial to prevent any adverse effects on services for residents, which are already facing significant strain. #LocalGovernment colleagues embarking on this journey, remember, you are not alone. There is a wealth of experienced and dedicated public servants who have navigated similar paths before, some multiple times. Drawing from their experiences, mistakes, and valuable lessons learned, I have compiled this Guide, with insights into pitfalls and top tips. For those seeking guidance from individuals with hands-on experience, feel free to reach out to access the Solace LGR/Devolution talent bank. Our pool of strategic advisors, coach/mentors, interim managers, and consultants boasts a diverse range of expertise in #LGR, #devolution, and combined/strategic authorities. This includes Chief Executives who have spearheaded LGR initiatives, Project Directors managing corporate transformations, and experts in various service areas like Planning, Waste, HR/OD, and Adult’s/Children’s Services. If you are looking for support in #governance, #finance, #policy, or #communications related to LGR processes, our talent bank includes skilled professionals ready to offer their insights and assistance. I look forward to chatting all things LGR/Devolution with colleagues from our East Midlands branch on 3rd April and 28th March in the West Midlands alongside colleagues from LGA, West Midlands Employers and MHCLG. Look out for more details on our up-coming LGR/Devo webinars on 9th and 10th April.
