🌞 Exciting Milestone for Renewable Energy in Africa! 🌍   We are very proud to announce that Solarcentury Africa and Sinoenergy have achieved Financial Close on Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest fully merchant utility-scale solar project, a 20 MWp solar PV plant in Namibia! 🌱   This Gerus Solar Project project will be the first fully merchant solar plant trading renewable energy on the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), representing a huge step forward in addressing the region’s energy deficit and driving sustainable growth. With an investment of approximately US$20 million, the plant will generate 51 GWh annually, offsetting more than 86,000 tonnes of CO2. 🌍⚡   Key highlights: ✅Fully merchant project, breaking the traditional energy procurement model ✅Funded by Solarcentury Africa who will own the plant ✅Adds much-needed generation capacity to the Southern African region ✅150 local jobs created during construction ✅Construction to commence immediately with the plant set to be commissioned by Q3 2025   This is just the beginning! Solarcentury Africa is already developing more merchant power projects across Southern Africa to further support clean, reliable energy. 🌄 Solarcentury Africa at the Namibian Mining Expo: Leading the Way in Energy Solutions 🌅   We are excited to announce that Solarcentury Africa will be attending the Namibian Mining Expo (Chamber of Mines Namibia) tomorrow and Thursday. As we continue to make significant strides in Namibia, our presence at this event underscores our commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions in the Namibian mining sector. Our "behind the metre" approach is gaining traction with mines across the country, providing them with reliable, cost-effective, and clean energy. Additionally, our development of around 100MW of merchant power for MSB clients is paving the way for a more resilient and independent energy landscape in Namibia.
